Nigel Farage dismantled claims from the Liberal Democrats the overall votes anti-Brexit parties received during the European Parliament polls showed Britons had changed their mind about leaving the European Union. A graphic made the rounds on social media at the end of the European elections on Sunday and was hared by anti-Brexit campaigners, including former Labour member Alastair Campbell, claiming Remain parties had won 40.4 percent of votes against 34.9 percent for Brexit supporting parties. Asked about the claim, Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage told Euronews: “It’s funny, these Remainers never accept the results of anything – they don’t accept the referendum, they don’t accept the elections.

“If you look at it with the Brexit Party, the Ukip vote, and the Conservatives – those who are committed to Brexit – and even the Labour Party, officially, are committed to Brexit. It’s 58 percent of the vote versus 38 percent of the vote.

“Will they please stop whining?”

The Brexit Party, which only came to life six weeks ago after Theresa May agreed to a further delay of the Brexit deadline, secured 31.7 percent of the votes and is set to send 29 MEPs to Brussels in July.

Mr Farage insisted the newly-elected MEPs will be a “vociferous presence” in Brussels and will seek to join the negotiations to snatch a deal from EU negotiator Michel Barnier.

He continued: “We’re going to be vociferous, stand up for our point of view, represent our constituents, that’s obvious.

“What we really want to do is this – we got a mandate. We’re going to be in Brussels, that’s where the negotiations are going on.

“Many of the men and women who have been elected for the Brexit Party list are businessmen and businesswomen of considerable experience, people who have done deals for a living, people who own big companies.”

Mr Farage added: “We want to be part of those negotiations to make sure we are ready to leave on October 31 on WTO rules or whatever else.”

Tory Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg praised Mr Farage for “the most important contribution” to Brexit negotiations following his party’s success in the European elections.

Mr Rees-Mogg insisted the success of the Brexit Party would force the Conservative Party to support a no deal Brexit if an agreement with Brussels cannot be achieved.

Following last Thursday’s vote in the UK, Theresa May announced she will step down as Prime Minister on Friday, June 7, after US President Donald Trump’s visit to Britain and France to mark the 75th anniversary since the D-Day landing in Normandy. 

Her announcement sparked speculation about her potential successor and had several members of the Conservative Party announce plans to stand in the upcoming leadership contest. 

So far, 12 Tory MPs have come forward with their pitch to take over the Conservative leadership and make a final attempt to pressure Brussels into re-opening negotiations with the British Government.

Former Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab made his plans know last week alongside 1922 Committee chair Sir Graham Brady, former Foreign Minister Boris Johnson, Home Secretary Sajid David and former leader of the House Andrea Leadsom. 

Tory MP Tom Tugendhat called upon the leadership candidates to hold a debate.

Mr Tugendhat said” ”We’ve had one leader who wouldn’t debate. This time we need to hear the candidates arguing their views.

“We know what most of them think about Brexit, sure, but what about apprenticeships? What about healthcare?”
