Nigel Farage celebrated Super Saturday, the latest easing of England’s coronavirus lockdown measures, by visiting his local pub this afternoon. But many Twitter users were furious at the move and accused the Brexit Party leader of breaching quarantine regulations after he recently visited the US.

In response, Mr Farage silenced the critics and pointed out that he was not required to self isolate, as he returned from the US 14 days ago – the mandated length of quarantine after a visit abroad – and has also tested negative for COVID-19.

The politician’s first Tweet said: “12 o’clock, first customer in. Love it.”

The caption was accompanied by a picture of Mr Farage smiling and holding a half-drunk pint.

Several hours later, the former MEP hit out at the dozens of people commenting on the post and accusing him of breaking lockdown restrictions.

Mr Farage, who lives in Westerham, Kent, wrote: “To all those screaming and shouting about me going to the pub….

“I have been back from the USA for two weeks and I have been tested — the result was negative.

“Sorry to disappoint you. Cheers!”

His second Tweet was also shared alongside another picture of him holding a pint of beer and smiling to the camera.

Dozens of people responded to his initial Tweet, and suggested he was breaching quarantine rules.

One person wrote: “Can you confirm when you arrived back in the UK from your visit to the US?

“Were you unaware of the requirements of quarantine?”

Another user even tagged the official Twitter account of the Met Police, and said: “Hi @metpoliceuk. Nigel is supposed to be quarantining.

Several other people also tagged the Met Police and Kent Police in their responses.

One user suggested the police should fine Mr Farage for the apparent breach of the rules.

They wrote: “You should be in quarantine. Fined and shamed.

“You’ve just returned from a high infection country.”

But Mr Farage cleared up that he did not need to be in self-isolation as he returned from the US two weeks ago.

Many people spoke up in support of the Brexiteer, with one person writing: “Cheers Nigel. Enjoy your beer, stop thinking about these moaners.”

Another person said: “No need to explain… Chers Nigel! Now ruddy enjoy yourself.”

A third wrote: “Enjoy your pint Nigel… you deserve it!!”
