Former Brexit Party MEP Ann Widdecombe challenged the SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon to address grey areas in her dream of Scottish independence. Ms Sturgeon has hinted that if Scotland was independent it would quickly hope to rejoin the EU as well. During an interview with Express.co.uk, Ms Widdecombe argued that if Scotland would want to rejoin the EU, many countries would oppose.
Ms Widdecombe also said Scotland would lose out on subsidiaries from the Westminster Government as an independent nation.
In addition to this, Ms Widdecombe argued Boris Johnson has no plan of granting Scotland an independence referendum anyway.
Ms Widdecombe said: “I think because of the economic situation in Scotland several countries would raise their eyebrows at Scotland rejoining the EU.
“I think Spain would have political objections also, Spain would be a big block in the way.

“We don’t yet know how countries would react because there are no actual concrete suggestions on the table, there cannot be.
“Firstly, Nicola Sturgeon needs a referendum to give independence, which would be a gift from Westminster.
“There is no sign at all from Boris Johnson that he is inclined to have another referendum.
“So without a referendum, Nicola cannot have independence as she can’t open unilateral negotiations with the EU.”
Ms Widdecombe also noted a key issue that Ms Sturgeon may have ignored in her push for independence.
Ms Widdecombe said: “Nicola may also wake up to the fact that if she was to have independence, she would also have to be negotiating with the UK as well.
“She would not be getting the huge subsidiaries that we pour into Scotland.
“We would have no reason to give them to Scotland.

“I think very often Nicola Sturgeon paints this picture that Scotland would just carry on as it is at the moment.
“She has this idea of Scotland without our intervention but no it would also be without our subsidiaries.”
Ms Widdecombe concluded it would be a long time before Scotland had another referendum on independence as it was a once in a generation vote.
