Tokyo
Japan tends not to celebrate Christmas the same way the UK and USA do, but New Year’s celebrations can often last for three days.
Houses, streets and businesses are decorated, food is enjoyed and firework displays held.
Typically in Japan New Year’s Eve is spent at home with family, meaning countdown events are not all that common.
However, in recent years, crowds have been gathering at Shibuya Crossing on New Year’s Eve.
A popular place for fireworks in the New Year was Tokyo Tower, however this has stopped hosting displays.
If you want to celebrate with some fireworks, you could head to Yokosuka and Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise (access: Hakkeijima Station) in Kanagawa Prefecture.
Express.co.uk were unable to find a livestream before the event, but check back here for a video of the display.
In Tokyo, midnight strikes at 3pm GMT on December 31.
London
One of the most famous New Year’s firework displays comes from London, with thousands crowding streets, climbing hills and finding balconies to watch the display.

The fireworks are sent cascading into the air over the River Thames, lighting up the iconic London Eye.
This exclusive event requires tickets to attend, or you can attempt to find a spot to see the fireworks for free.
