New Year Honours list blunder sees 1,000 recipients' addresses published
Big names including Elton John, cricketer Ben Stokes and TV chef Nadiya Hussain were briefly put at risk when the Government accidentally put their addresses online.
The Cabinet Office has apologised after publishing the wrong version of the New Year Honours 2020 list which included the extra details.
As well as celebrities and sportspeople, the list of 1,097 also included police officers, former director of public prosecutions Alison Saunders and ex-Conservative Party leader Iain Duncan Smith.
A spokesperson for the Cabinet Office said: ‘The information was removed as soon as possible.
‘We apologise to all those affected and are looking into how this happened’.
The Government department said it has reported the matter to the Information Commissioner’s Office and are speaking to everyone who has been affected directly.
They claimed the document would have been visible for roughly an hour.
Sources told the BBC they were able to access the file at 11pm and just after midnight on Saturday but were unable to do so by 5am.
Six people honoured for services for defence did not have their addresses published.
