‘My dream man asked me to put my daughter up for adoption but I still want him’

A single mum has told how she still wants to stay with her “dream partner” – even after he asked her to place her daughter up for adoption.

The anonymous woman, 28, explained in a social media post that she had a three-year-old daughter from a previous relationship and met her ideal man 10 months ago.

But, despite having connected with the young girl, her new boyfriend had insisted she was “broken” and refused to raise “another man’s child” who had come out of wedlock.

In a post on Reddit’s r/relationship_advice forum, the mum said she would never put her daughter up for adoption but confessed she still wanted to be with the man, who she said was 32.

She explained he had everything she was looking for, including being reliable and financially stable.

The two also had “amazing chemistry”, and her daughter had become attached to him, she added.

But he became increasingly distant as their relationship progressed, and the once “great communicator” told her during a discussion that she was “broken”.

He elaborated that, since her daughter was born out of wedlock and she rarely contacted the youngster’s father, he felt she was in a “mess” he didn’t “deserve to deal with”.

She said her boyfriend would only continue with their relationship if she gave her daughter up to a close family member for adoption.

In this situation, she could see her daughter, she said, “just not daily”.

The mum confessed that she still hoped she could convince her boyfriend to “accept my daughter and continue his life with me”, much to the dismay of other Reddit users.

More than 5,000 commenters took to the post, with some convinced her partner was a “sociopath”.

One user questioned: “He said he wanted you to give away your child and you’re still trying to make it work?”

Another added: “The first thing you need to do is look in the mirror and yell to yourself why would you ever think it’s a good idea to stay with a partner that wants to get rid of your kid, let alone try to convince him that she can stay? Next, dump him.”

One Redditor branded the man “sociopathic” saying: “This dude sounds borderline sociopathic- to be able to ask a mom to kick her kid to the curb with a straight face is f***ed.”

In a later edit, the mum said she was “obviously” never going to get rid of her daughter, adding: “I might have worded it wrong. I am just contemplating whether it is possible to get him to drop his idea of adoption and sooner or later accept my daughter, even though it’s not ideal for him.”

The Reddit post has since been deleted by r/relationship_advice moderators.
