Murder probe launched after woman and baby die in horror smash in Shropshire

Police say they are not searching for suspects but have appealed for information. It comes after the grey Ford Focus they were in collided with a lorry at around 1am on Tuesday.

The car was travelling north on the A41 when it hit the lorry between Newport and Tern Hill in north Shropshire.

The woman, 35, and her 11-month-old daughter died at the scene.The male lorry driver was uninjured.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “The two occupants of the car were in a critical condition.

“Tragically, despite the best efforts of everyone, nothing could be done to save the woman and child.”

Police want anyone in the area at the time of the incident or who may have dashcam footage to contact them.
