Mum who wrote grief book for sons 'murdered her husband over buying mansion'

The children’s book author accused of murdering her husband was quarreling with him about buying a $2million home, according to investigators.

Kouri Richins, the 33-year-old Utah mother accused of murdering her husband with a lethal dosage of fentanyl in 2022, was reportedly fighting with her husband about purchasing a massive mansion.

Eric Richins, Kouri’s late husband, reportedly thought the $2million pricetag was too expensive for the family, which included three young children.

‘According to the family, Eric and his wife were arguing over buying a nearly $2 million property she wanted to “flip,”‘ a search warrant viewed by local NPR station KPCW said. ‘He was planning on telling her that he wasn’t going to sign the papers.’

According to KPCW, Kouri Richins closed on the deal to purchase the home on March 5 – the day after her husband’s murder.

Two weeks after his death, Kouri put the huge mansion in Heber City, Utah back on the market, asking for $4.8million.

The mansion’s listing is still online, but the home’s realtor said it has a buyer.

According to the listing, extravagant home comes with a ‘butler’s pantry, swimming pool, therapy pool, exercise room, golf simulator, full-size, indoor volleyball court, climbing rock wall, two commons rooms, two kitchens, and even a room dedicated for virtual reality experiences.’

Additional details revealed in the search warrants revealed Richins may have tried to poison her husband before his death in March 2022.

‘While investigating the death, I was told by Eric’s family members that they suspected his wife had something to do with his death,’ a Summit County Sheriff’s Deputy stated. ‘They advised he warned them that if anything happened to him, she was to blame.’

According to Eric’s sister, he became ‘violently ill’ on a family trip to Greece in a few years prior. He told his sister that he believed his wife was responsible for poisoning his drink on the trip.

In another incident on Valentine’s Day in 2022, Eric allegedly broke out into hives after taking just one bite of a sandwich his wife made him. He survived after using his son’s EpiPen and taking benadryl.
