MP tells Piers Morgan to go 'f**k yourself' in Twitter spat
A Labour MP has told Piers Morgan to ‘go f*** yourself’ after the presenter criticised politicians for ‘using’ murdered colleague Jo Cox to ‘wage their viciously tribal Brexit war’.
The Twitter row broke out after Boris Johnson told the Commons last night the best way to honour Mrs Cox – killed by a right-wing extremist in the run-up to the EU referendum – was to ‘get Brexit done’.
His comments drew audible gasps, which came after several MPs urged the prime minister to stop using ‘violent’ and ‘dangerous’ language.
Mrs Cox’s husband Brendan said he ‘felt a bit sick’ that his wife’s name had been used in such a way, while Jeremy Corbyn accused the PM of ‘whipping up division with language that’s indistinguishable from the far right’.
Mr Morgan waded into the debate and criticised MPs on ‘all sides’ for attempting to push forward their ideas on Brexit.
Neil Coyle, MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark, took offence to the comments and called the broadcaster a ‘scrote’ and a ‘sad, sick little man’.
The Good Morning Britain presenter told his 6.8 million Twitter followers: ‘British politicians now using their murdered former colleague Jo Cox to wage their viciously tribal Brexit war.
‘Parliament has reached a new low, on all sides. Disgraceful.’
Mr Coyle retweeted the broadcaster’s comment and told him: ‘You’re a sad, sick little man. For you to stoop this low is shocking. Grim’.
Mr Morgan retorted: ‘Actually, you & your fellow MPs are the sad, sick, low, grim ones.
‘Parliament has become an absolute disgrace, so don’t you dare try to lecture others on behaviour.’
Mr Coyle responded: ‘It’s early doors Piers but I say this hand on heart: go f*** yourself.
‘You’re a waste of space, air and skin. Trying to use Jo against us whilst encouraging the fascists is shocking even for a scrote like you.
‘You make me sick.’
The broadcaster has also been engaging in a Twitter row with Labour MP Angela Rayner, after she criticised Mr Johnson’s ‘arrogant, dismissive, belligerent, attitude to other MPs has been a disgrace’.
Mr Morgan suggested the shadow secretary of state for education was a hypocrite, before engaging in further arguments with actors and journalists.
The prime minister’s comment in the Commons last night was in response to a question from Tracy Brabin, who was elected to the seat after Ms Cox was killed.
The Labour MP for Batley and Spen said: ‘As the woman who has taken over a seat left by our dear friend Jo Cox, can I ask him in all honesty as a human being please, please will he going forward moderate his language so that we will all feel secure when we’re going about our jobs.’
Mr Johnson replied: ‘Of course there will be an attempt to try to obfuscate the effect of this Act, but it does – the Capitulation Act, or the Surrender Act or whatever you want to call it – it does, I’m sorry, but it greatly enfeebles, it greatly enfeebles this Government’s ability to negotiate.
‘But what I will say is that the best way to honour the memory of Jo Cox and indeed the best to bring this country together would be, I think, to get Brexit done.’
