Mother-of-11 blasts £1,000 a month benefits and those who judge her – ‘I regret nothing’
Bethan Carter, 40, has slapped down remarks form those who judge her for living off the state. The mother from Port Talbot, Wales, told The Sun: “People judge me because I am on benefits, but unless you have a severely autistic child you can’t know what it is like. “I am happy with my family – I do not care what people say. They are happy and get the care they need.
“They are loved. I find it very rewarding to be a mum.
“Being a mum of so many kids is hard but I love it – they are all so loving.”
Ms Carter has epilepsy and memory loss due to a brain cyst.
She also has a malformation at the base of her brain.
She said three of her children have epilepsy and that her son, Mark, 16, has severe autism and epilepsy.
He has several seizures a week.
Ms Carter said: “When he fits, he just collapses and, when he comes out of a fit, he screams. He can not handle the little ones and likes being on his own.”
Ms Carter said she gets up at 6am to prepare breakfast and sort out the family’s medication for the day.

She said Mark gets picked up in a taxi to take him to school in Bryncoch while she and Andy do the school run for the other children, of which six of them are under 10.
She said she cleans the house while her brood are at school.
When they get home she will start dinner, which often consists of McDonald’s or KFC.
She said: “I can not cook so I just try to make things quickly like beans or sausages.

“I try to have dinner ready shortly after they get back from school.
“If it has been a long day and it is getting late, we will get a KFC or a McDonald’s.”
She said they have fast food twice a week with each of the meals costing £35 a time.
She said they also shop at Farm Foods monthly, which will cost £400 a time.
The so-called ‘big shop’ consists of £30 on sausages and six boxes of 30 fish fingers for £20 in total.
The shop fits in two chest freezers and a normal-sized fridge-freezer.
Ms Carter said: “We get frozen food mainly because it is cheaper and more convenient.
“It is what they want.”
She added they go through three large boxes of washing power every single month.
She said they have two washing machines and two dryers and that there is laundry on constantly.
They have two bathrooms and Ms Carter added she can wash three of her children at a time under the same shower downstairs.
She said: “Time flies and before you know it is bed time again,” she said. “After dinner, they just play – there are toys everywhere.

“I try to get them to sleep by 8pm or 9pm. I am up until midnight or 1am doing things around the house.”
They do not go on holidays, she added, because her husband is not a fan of them.
She said: “If we go anywhere, we go somewhere for the day – normally Porthcawl.
“But it takes a lot of planning.”
She admitted she did get sterilised after quitting her job of working full time in a cafe 16 years ago.
“It is hard work to have that many children, but they are happy and they are very close to each other.
“I am happy I got sterilised but I do not regret anything.”
She gets £500 of benefits every two weeks, including income support, child benefit and disability allowance.
Regardless, she complained it is not enough money.
She said: “It is not enough. I could take them all to town and spend £200 just on shoes for all of them.
“We do not have any savings – all we have goes on them. We spend all year saving for Christmas.”
