More than 1,000 bikers join funeral convoy for schoolboy's Christmas Eve funeral

Bikers from all over the country showed up to escort the coffin of a 12-year-old boy who loved bikes.

Motorcycle-mad Jozef Stansiak, who had life-limiting disabilities, died after a spell in hospital on December 14.

The schoolboy has always loved the sound of motorbikes so his mum Heidi Stansiak asked funeral directors to put out an appeal for bikers to escort him to the church where his service was being held in Cornwall.

More than 1,000 riders gathered at Carnon Downs, near Truro, on Saturday morning to accompany him on his final journey.

Jozef’s funeral cortege left his home at 9.30am and was greeted by hundreds of bikers lining the route.

Once the hearse reached the front of the procession, two funeral directors from Penryn and Falmouth – dressed as Batman and Robin – led the group before setting off in their vehicle.

The bikers then followed, with it taking more than 10 minutes for the last one to finally head off down the A39.

The procession was watched by hundreds of people, who lined the route to say their goodbyes.

Only the first 50 bikes, which included Jozef’s dad Dominik, followed the hearse all the way to the church.

The rest of the convoy pulled into Falmouth Town Football Club, which opened up especially for the bikers.

Organiser David Saunby said ‘Tell you what. I’ve been overwhelmed. I’ve been welling up. I didn’t expect this. It’s a fantastic turnout.’
