Savanta ComRes conducted a survey which found 49 percent of people believe there will be additional lockdowns in Britain. In the poll 74 per cent of people were concerned about another virus wave this winter.
Fears are highest among those aged over 55 at 78 percent.
On Monday, the UK recorded 49,156 new Covid-19 cases, with the UK soaring past 40,000 for the sixth day in a row.
Chris Hopkins, of Savanta ComRes, said: “While it may feel to many that the UK is out of the woods with coronavirus, there is still an underlying feeling – or perhaps fear – among the public that there are more restrictions, including lockdowns, to come.
“That, coupled with a small but significant proportion who feel that the worst of the pandemic is still ahead of us, shows that trust in the vaccine rollout may still be undermined if the UK enters further restrictions during a winter that will be inevitably challenging for the NHS.”
In the poll 2,103 UK adults were interviewed online by Savanta ComRes between October 8 to 10.
Out of this survey three in ten people said another lockdown would demonstrate the vaccine rollout had been a failure.
In the poll 19 per cent believe the worst is yet to come.
However, 33 percent of people think there will be no additional restrictions.
The poll hits at a time when reportedly the uptake of Covid booster jabs may be too slow to prevent a crisis in hospitals.
After a month of the booster programme, NHS figures have suggested only half of eligible over-80s have received a third dose.
Boris Johnson is keeping “a very close watch” of the latest coronavirus situation amid demands for rules to be reintroduced due to a surge in infections.
Downing Street admitted the coming months would be “challenging” but that while current statistics were “broadly” in line with modelling done by scientists earlier this year.
