Milton Keynes shopping centre EVACUATION: Police rush to John Lewis store
Thames Valley Police have cordoned off roads around Centre MK and are warning people to stay away from the area. The John Lewis store in the building has been completely evacuated while officers deal with the incident. A statement posted by the force on Twitter said: “Thames Valley Police is on the scene of two suspicious packages at the Centre MK shopping centre.
“The John Lewis store is currently being evacuated as a precaution and a cordon is being put in place.
“Road closures have also been put in place in the immediate vicinity.
“Members of the public are being urged to avoid the area until further notice.”
One person wrote on social media that the shopping centre has been “shut down” and there were “lots of police and cordon tape” around the building.
One woman with the Twitter handle @HannahBraybroo3 said she had been evacuated from John Lewis along with her mother
She wrote: “That whole area is cornered off, when we were leaving they were stopping people from entering.”
A man who claims to have been inside th shopping centre when the incident unfolded described the atmosphere as “calm”.
He said: “Walked up and down and you wouldnt think anything was up unless down the far end by John Lewis.
“Even parked up only a short distance away after the cordon had been erected.”
