Mike Graham tears Labour’s Gardiner apart over claims Tories will destroy NHS
The Shadow Secretary of State for International Trade told talkRADIO that The Conservative Party had severely weakened the NHS within the last decade. Mr Gardiner drew comparisons with the NHS under the Labour government in 2010 compared to the current NHS. However, Mr Graham tore apart his claims by pointing out that the NHS still receives £150 billion a year.
The talkRADIO host said: “Everybody in every single election has always told us that the Tories are going to destroy the NHS and the Tories have been in charge of the NHS for more times in terms of years than the Labour have and they have never destroyed the NHS.
“So why would they suddenly want to destroy the NHS and why would anyone from America want to buy the NHS?”
Mr Gardiner replied: “Mike you say they haven’t destroyed the NHS let’s look at the difference between the NHS today and the NHS under a Labour government in 2010.
“We have now got four million people who are waiting longer than 18 weeks for an operation.”
Mr Graham quipped: “We have got a lot more people in the country than in 2010.”
The Labour Party candidate continued: “We have got operations that are being cancelled at the last minute.
“The government targets on A&E waits, waiting more than four hours in A&E are now three million.
“They used to be less than 300,000.
“You said that they’re not destroying the NHS, the facts are that the NHS is being absolutely starved of cash.”
The talkRADIO host replied: “It’s got 150 billion pounds going into it every year Barry.”
Mr Gardiner responded: “Yes but you know Mike that is not what is required, we have an ageing population, we have an increasing population, the money that is needed in the NHS is simply not there.”
Mr Graham said: “Yes but it’s not quite right to say it is being starved of money.

“It’s an awful lot of money to starve people with isn’t it?”
The Labour candidate replied: “It is because it is being starved of what it needs.
“It is being starved of what is needed to provide services even to the standard that the government accepts it should be.
“It is not being properly funded and people recognise that.”
