Migrant boat sinks in the English Channel as people rescued by lifeboat
Dozens of migrants have been rescued from the Channel this morning after their small boat got into difficulty in the early hours.
The vessel is believed to have got into trouble around 5am this morning due to “severe adverse weather conditions” around five miles off the French coast, GB news reports.
It’s understood both a lifeboat and a fishing vessel were involved in the rescue
The recovered migrants were rushed to Dover where ambulances were waiting to take some to hospital for treatment for hypothermia.
BBC News correspondent Simon Jones tweeted: “Several people have been taken to hospital after a boat carrying migrants sank in the Channel. A number of people were seen being brought off the Dover lifeboat on stretchers.”
