Meghan’s issue with Kate and William traced back to Nottingham Cottage dispute

Meghan and Harry shocked the world with their tell-all Oprah Winfrey interview. Now, Piers Morgan, who left Good Morning Britain after immense pushback against his criticism of the couple, this week reiterated his stance. He told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson that he still didn’t “believe what they were saying”.

Mr Morgan added: “In particular, I don’t believe what Meghan Markle was saying.”

While Meghan and Harry’s feud with Mr Morgan is more obvious, smaller and behind-closed-doors fall-outs are said to have taken place between them and the rest of the Royal Family.

Most notably is the reported bad blood with Kate and William.

In the months after Meghan’s wedding, claims emerged that she and Kate had fallen out, with the Duchess of Cambridge having ended up crying – something which Meghan said had happened the other way round during the Oprah interview.

Even before this, pressure had grown between Harry and William after the elder brother had “offended” him by calling Meghan “this girl”.

This came when William appeared to offer his support, telling Harry: “Don’t feel you need to rush this.”

Tom Quinn, a royal author, speaking to Channel 5’s documentary, ‘Meghan & Harry: Two Troubled Years’ suggested the real animosity came after the couple moved into Nottingham Cottage in Kensington Palace.

He pinpointed the new residence – a small home – compared to William and Kate’s – a large apartment – as having “led to friction”.

Mr Quinn said: “Nottingham Cottage is in the grounds of Kensington Palace, and it’s quite small.

“It’s tiny compared to the enormous double apartment that Kate and William have.

“It was being pointed out to them in no uncertain terms that they weren’t in the first division, because that place is held by William and Kate.

“Inevitably that led to friction.

“In Meghan’s world, if you’re determined enough, you can get to the top.

“But Meghan can’t, she can’t get to the top whatever she does.”

In late 2018, Kensington Palace confirmed that Meghan and Harry would leave the cottage the following year.

Reports had initially suggested that they would move into the 21-bedroom apartment nextdoor to Kate and William.

However, it later transpired that they would relocate to Frogmore Cottage.

After spending £2.4million of taxpayer money to renovate Frogmore, Meghan and Harry announced that they would be stepping back as senior royals, splitting their between North America and the UK – later opting for a permanent move to the US.

It sparked fury among the public.

The pair later paid back the sum after securing lucrative contracts with Spotty and Netflix.

Meanwhile, in a statement responding to the allegations made against them in the Oprah interview, the Queen said the family were “saddened” to hear of Meghan and Harry’s struggles.

It read: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning.

“Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
