Meghan's book 'shows how unhappy Harry is to lose military titles', expert says

Meghan’s new book hints at how unhappy Prince Harry is to have lost his military titles, a royal author has claimed.

The Bench – which features an illustration of a red-haired soldier – is being used to show how much the army meant to Harry, according to the couple’s biographer Phil Dampier.

Harry, who served in Afghanistan and founded the Invictus Games for injured service personnel, is said to view the loss of his titles as the ‘bitterest’ part of ‘Megxit.’

He was Captain General of the Royal Marines but the Queen removed his honary associations after deciding the duke could not be ‘half in and half out’ of the Royal Family.

Mr Dampier told The Sun: ‘The illustration of a red-haired soldier (obviously you know who) hugging his little boy, looks as though he has come home from war after many years and pulls at the heart-strings.

‘Mum is in tears as she looks through the window, and sees her husband returning from battle to pick up family life once more.

‘It’s a scenario familiar to so many military couples separated by conflicts.

‘But of course it wasn’t a reality for Harry, who was in a different relationship when he served in Afghanistan.

‘Rather Meghan is probably showing how much the Army meant to Harry and how upset he is to lose his military titles.’

Mr Dampier, author of Royally Suited: Harry and Meghan In Their Own Words, added that the illustration was probably a subtle reminder that Harry had served on the frontline.

The Duke of Sussex inherited the Royal Marines title from grandfather Prince Philip just 30 months before it was taken away from him.

The loss of the titles meant that the Queen decreed all men at her husband’s funeral would wear civilian clothing as it could have meant Harry was the only one not in military uniform.

Details of the book were announced just before Harry and Meghan’s son Archie turned two. They are expecting their second child, a girl, in the summer.

Meanwhile, author Corrinne Averiss has dismissed speculation that the duchess’s book was ‘identical’ to her own work, titled The Boy on the Bench released in 2018.

The Manchester-based writer said she saw ‘no similarities’ between the two children’s books, despite both being about father-son relationships.
