Meghan Markle’s “American way” of communicating with Palace staff was reportedly a key issue in the breakdown of relations between Prince Harry and his brother Prince William. According to royal expert Robert Lacey’s new book Battle of Brothers: The Inside Story of a Family in Tumult, the author details the showdown between the two brothers after Palace aides accused Meghan of bullying which the Duchess of Sussex has vehemently denied.
According to reports, the Duke of Cambridge was “forced to act” after allegations of bullying were made by staff.
Royal expert Kylie Gillies said, “Look, I’ve read the reports, I tend to believe all of it. I think Meghan did come in and she probably with her American way was very ‘let’s get this done’ and then maybe upset the apple cart.”
“Maybe some of William’s staff did take exception to it. I tend to believe it’s probably all a bit true, William got put off slightly, then confronted Harry, Harry of course is going to defend Meghan – I reckon it’s all true and it was always going to happen.”
This fallout led to Prince Harry and Meghan breaking away from their joint Royal Foundation in 2019.
The couple then established their own charitable endeavour, Sussex Royal. This foundation ceased to exist after the couple decided to step back as senior royals.
In response to the report that Prince William “threw” the pair out of Kensington Palace, Kylie Gillies said “He didn’t kick her out, they decided to go their separate ways because they had one combined communications manager and perhaps that was never going to work.”
“If they did stick it out, you wouldn’t have these warring sides.”
Relations between Prince William and Prince Harry have been tense for the last two years.
The Duke of Cambridge was reportedly disappointed in the Sussexes decision to step away from the Royal Family in January 2020, in a shock move that was dubbed Megxit by the British press.
In a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, Prince Harry characterised his relationship with his older brother as “space”.
He also said that they were on “different paths” and claimed that his brother was “trapped” within the institution.
The couple’s explosive interview with Orpah caused a PR disaster for Buckingham Palace. The couple accused the Royal Family of neglecting their mental health, refusing their son a title and security and that a member of the family had made a racist remark.
