Meghan skypes Prince Harry during his Malawi tour while Archie takes a nap
Meghan Markle skyped Prince Harry in Malawi today so she could praise thousands of women helping impoverished schoolgirls get an education.
The Royal couple are touring Africa for ten days, but Meghan and Archie have stayed in South Africa while Prince Harry visits Botswana, Angola and Malawi.
During her Skype appearance, the Duchess of Sussex revealed four-month-old Archie was currently ‘taking a nap’.
She spoke to Harry during his visit of Nalikule College of Education, in Lilongwe, where he learned about a project called Cama.
The organisation helps to pay for uniforms, fees and school books for poverty-stricken girls so they can complete their studies and not be married off by their families.
Harry and Meghan are presidents of the 2017 the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, which has been working with Cama.
Before the duchess appeared, Prince Harry told the women: ‘I know there’s somebody else you’d far rather hear from than me, hopefully if technology doesn’t fail us you may see somebody on the screen.’
Meghan then appeared smiling and said: ‘I’m so happy to be with you, is there a delay?’, to which Harry replied: ‘No, it’s great, keep going.’
The duchess went on to say: ‘We’re just so proud as president and vice-president of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust that we can support you in everything that you do because we cannot begin to express how valuable and vital that work is, we’re just incredibly proud to be part of it.
‘I wish I could be with you, we’re in South Africa right now, Archie’s taking a nap. I’m with you in spirit.’
Earlier this week Prince Harry followed in his mother’s footsteps to detonate a landmine in the exact same spot in Angola where the Princess of Wales did 22 years ago.
Meghan meanwhile met Sophia Williams-De Bruyn, one of the pioneers of the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa, and visited a memorial to murdered University of Cape Town student Uyinene Mrwetyana.
On Wednesday, baby Archie stole the show with a rare public appearance when the Royal couple met Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
