In an interview with US broadcaster NPR Radio, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex revealed a touching story about a soldier and a son that was behind one of the illustrations in her latest book The Bench. She describes how an unusual activity between a Texas sergeant fighting abroad and his son back home in the US kickstarted an idea for the book.

Speaking about The Bench, Meghan Markle explained how it is in fact “a love story”.

The Duchess said: “It’s really just about growing with someone and having this deep connection and this trust…

“So that, be at good times or bad, you know that you had this person.

“I really hope that people can see this as a love story that transcends the story of my family.”
