Meghan ‘only stayed in Royal Family as long as necessary to secure desired US life’
Meghan Markle and Harry's behaviour is 'ludicrous' says Levin
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex officially left their lives as working royals behind in March and have quickly carved out a new purpose for themselves on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. The couple announced their intention to “step back” from the Firm back in January after an extended break in Canada, and said they wanted to divide their time between the UK and North America. After prolonged discussions with the rest of the Royal Family it was decided that the Sussexes could spend split their time overseas, but would have to stop using their HRH titles and the word “royal” in any of their endeavours as they were no longer senior members of the Firm.
They will be reviewing the current arrangement after a year, but so far it seems incredibly unlikely the pair will want to return to the royal fold — especially as they have already given the keys to their UK home, Frogmore Cottage, to Princess Eugenie.
Meghan and Harry now have a historic deal with Netflix, a contract with a high-profile public speaking agency and a lavish mansion in Santa Barbara where they live with their one-year-old son Archie.
They have moved back to Meghan’s childhood state of California near to her mother Doria Ragland, and seem to be edging into the entertainment industry through their Netflix contract.
The Duchess of Sussex had to renounce her career as an actress on Suits in order to join the Royal Family in 2018 but she is expected to mainly be behind the camera when producing content for the streaming platform.
Royal commentator Howard Hodgson revealed his thoughts on Meghan’s two-year stint as a working royal, and claimed it may have been short for a reason.

He said: “[She] was very determined, had been advancing her career, was a minor star before she met a royal prince, married a royal prince, stayed as long as is decent in the country she didn’t want to be in doing jobs she didn’t want to do.
“Then there was a short trip to Canada, which was only very short because it was then going to get her back to exactly where she wanted — where she now is, and doing what she wants to do.
“Harry is just being dragged along and will probably, if he’s not very careful, end up with the senselessly sad life that was that of the Duke of Windsor.”
The Duke of Windsor, formerly King Edward VIII, triggered a constitutional crisis in 1936 when he abdicated in order to marry his twice-divorced partner, Wallis Simpson.
He was effectively sent into exile for the rest of his life in France, and no members of the Royal Family attended his wedding.
Mr Hodgson is not the only commentator to have claimed Meghan appeared to “jump ship” very quickly.
Journalist David Jones interviewed some of her royal friends and acquaintances, and claimed that none of them were surprised “this free-spirited and untameable, headstrong woman has so prematurely jumped the royal ship”.
While Harry has indicated that he was unhappy being a royal in the past, these friends “feel sure Meghan will have been the prime instigator of their hasty escape”.
One of her oldest confidantes allegedly said: “With Meghan, it has always been her way or the highway.
“She is always the centre of the relationship, regardless of Harry’s title.
“She wants to be in the limelight, but under her own terms.
“Now she will get to make her own rules. It’s perfect for her. Meghan likes to flee when things get heavy, and observe from afar what she has done.”

Speaking to The Daily Mail, they added: “She is running a campaign. This is not just an exit. It is a long-game strategy that has been set in motion for some time.”
Yet, Sussex fans have pointed out that The Crown’s latest seasons appeared to stoke newfound sympathy for the royals and their decision to depart from the Royal Family.
Netflix’s fictionalised drama reimagines some of the landmark events from the Queen’s reign, and the newly-released season four focused on the collapse of Charles and Diana’s marriage.
The Royal Family are portrayed as cold and unyielding, which prompted a wave of pity for the Sussexes, reinforced by more sympathetic reports of her departure from earlier this year.
When hugging her staff goodbye back in March, Meghan allegedly said: “It didn’t have to be this way.”
Additionally, the pro-Sussex biography Finding Freedom claimed the Duchess told a friend: “I gave up my entire life for this family. I was willing to do whatever it takes. But here we are. It’s very sad.”

These claims and The Crown’s depiction of Princess Diana point the blame at the Royal Family for any fallout.
Yet, Mr Hodgson dismissed the parallels between Diana and Meghan drawn by fans of The Crown.
He told Express.co.uk that Meghan did not have the same “insecurities as Diana” which played a part in her divorce and departure from the Royal Family.
Additionally, Diana spent 16 years in the public eye as the Princess of Wales — and only one of those was as a single woman — while Meghan only spent two years on the royal frontline.
