Meghan Markle’s royal SNUB? Why Meghan REALLY unfollowed Kate Middleton on Instagram
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who are expecting a baby any day now, recently updated their Instagram account @sussexroyal, sending followers of the couple into frenzy. As fans clicked on the newly launched social media account it appeared the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had chosen to unfollow Royal Family members. This include Kate Middleton and Prince William, the Queen, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
Meghan and Prince Harry shared a photo just as the clock ticked midnight on May 1, to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing.
Followers were quick to notice that the couple had stopped following their close family members, with many wondering why the pair had decided to do such a drastic move.
Instead, the Sussexes are only following a number of charities based on a certain theme.
And although people were at shock at first by the digital move, Meghan and Prince Harry revealed that is was for a meaningful reason.
Why Meghan Markle really unfollowed Kate Middleton
Meghan and Prince Harry explained in the post that they are only following organisations that work to “promote mental well-being” this month.
In the post, where the couple had put together a collage of nine photos, paying tribute to various mental health charities, they wrote: “May is Mental Health Awareness Month in the US and May 13-19 is Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK.
“To pay tribute to all of the incredible work people across the globe are doing in this space, we are hoping to shine a light on several Instagram accounts that promote mental well-being, mental fitness, body positivity, self-care, and the importance of human connection – to not just hear each other, but to listen.
“There are countless organisations doing amazing work for mental health – please consider the accounts we’ve highlighted as a small snapshot of this global support network. We are all in this together.”
The royal couple also added why they are now only following 16 Instagram accounts.
By doing so, they are leveraging their massive following as a platform to promote causes they support and would like to bring more attention to, and will change the concept every month.
Meghan and Prince Harry further explained: “We invite you to explore the extraordinary stories of strength, and the commitment to kindness as seen in the above accounts.
“Each month we will honour this same concept and change the accounts we solely follow based on a different theme or cause.
“Please go to our homepage and click ‘following’ to see each of the select accounts and find out more about their work.”
As fans realised the new concept on the Sussexes’ account, they were quick to praise the soon-to-be parents.
One commented on the post: “Always forward thinking. Thank you both for bringing awareness to a subject that sorely needs to come out into the open. Everyone of us knows someone struggling with mental health issues, whether in our own families or friends.”
While another said: “Thank you for shedding light on a health issue that is often overlooked. Your awareness will have a profound impact globally! You guys are doing an excellent job!”
