Meghan Markle’s royal duties leaked despite request for secrecy over security fears
The Duchess of Sussex has given the royal tour another twist, according to local reports. Contrary to what royal fans are used to, Meghan isn’t announcing beforehand most of her engagements but shares information and pictures about them only at the end of her day. This, according to local reports, is due to security and sensitivity reasons.
However, despite the alleged request of keeping details of these engagements under embargo, details of where Meghan will be today have been leaked.
The Duchess’ visit to the University of Johannesburg this morning was announced approximately one hour before it took place.
Later today, Meghan will continue her efforts in understanding and shining a light on gender-based violence in South Africa by attending a discussion on this topic at Action Aid South Africa’s headquarters.
Carrying out engagements without being under the spotlight, also allows Meghan to be more relaxed and informal with her hosts.
Yesterday night, Meghan revealed through the Duke and Duchess’ official Instagram account sussexroyal, she visited Victoria Yards in Johannesburg.
The hub brings together artisans and entrepreneurs to “rebuild, support and learn from each other on a holistic level”, according to the message shared on Instagram by the royals.
In candid pictures, Meghan can be seen hugging three children before taking a caring look at their drawings.

Among the many artisan shops she met at Victoria Yards, the mother-of-one also visited Tshepo’s showroom, where she received as a present a pair of skinny jeans for herself and a pair of unique small dungarees made only for the Duchess’ son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor.
Lesedi Masemola, the brand’s manager, spoke with enthusiasm about how well-received were the presents.
Speaking about Meghan, Mr Masemola said: “From what we’ve seen on the internet she’s the type of person who loves the skinny fit so that’s what we made.
“When she saw the jeans the words she said were ‘oh my, oh my’ she was very impressed she loved the jeans she said she couldn’t wait to try them on and said ‘wow’.
“And when she saw the dungarees she said ‘very cute”, I think they are very, very lovely.”
At Victoria Yards, Meghan also said to be “moved” by the original poetry of Belita Andre, the winner of the Poetry Grandslam.
A message shared on Instagram detailing Meghan’s day read: “While in Johannesburg today, The Duchess of Sussex visited Victoria Yards, which celebrates the power of community, bringing local artisans and ‘makers’ together to rebuild, support and learn from each other on a holistic level.
“It was an exceptional afternoon where The Duchess had the chance to connect with the children and founders of the phenomenal programme for kids’ development Timbuktu in The Valley.
“She was also struck by the local denim designer who founded eponymous brand Tshepo who shared this info about the logo for his line: ‘The crown on my jeans represents the three ladies who raised me.
‘Enjoy wearing this crown.’
“Such a beautiful and touching sentiment!”
Meghan hasn’t publicised any of her engagements since Thursday after Prince Harry left for a solo tour of Central Africa.
While in Cape Town with Archie, Meghan visited the grieving mother of Uyinene Mrwetyana, a student brutally murdered in late August, and met several female leaders and activists to better understand the issues women face in South Africa.
Meghan was spotted leaving Cape Town for Johannesburg with her four-month-old son on Saturday night.
A sweet picture shows the Duchess of Sussex walking towards her gate at the Cape Town International Airport with little Archie safe in her arms.
In the photo, Meghan appears to be kissing her son’s head, who lays relaxed in her arms.
For the brief British Airline commercial flight to Johannesburg, Meghan sported a casual outfit, wearing a white shirt with her sleeves rolled up black jeans with a brown belt and flats.
Archie wore a grey jumper with matching socks and blue trousers, partially hidden by the grey blanket he was wrapped in.
The little Sussex hasn’t been seen in public since then, and it is unclear whether he will appear to any other royal engagements before the family-of-thee leaves for the UK on October 2.
