Harry and Meghan welcomed in the New Year from their home in Montecito, California, where they also celebrated Christmas. The Sussexes have been enjoying their first festive period as a family of four, after the birth of Harry and Meghan’s daughter Lilibet last June. Last month, the couple caused a stir among royal watchers after they released a Christmas card that pictured the whole family, including Lilibet, who had not been seen since her birth.
The photo, which also included the Sussexes two-year-old son Archie, was captioned: “This year, 2021, we welcomed our daughter Lilibet to the world.
“Archie made us a ‘Mama’ and a ‘Papa’ and Lili made us a family.
“As we look forward to 2022 we have made donations on your behalf to several organisations that honour and protect families ‒ from those being relocated from Afghanistan to American families in need of paid parental leave.”
Harry and Meghan first met in July 2016 after being set up on a blind date by a mutual friend.

Just over a year later they were engaged while they married at Windsor Castle in 2018.
However, months before Meghan met Harry her New Year’s resolution was to be open to “magic” and “change”.
Writing on her now-defunct lifestyle blog ‘The TIG’, Meghan said in 2016: “My New Year’s resolution is to leave room for magic.
“To make my plans and be okay if they sometimes break.
“To set my goals, but to be open to change”.
Of course, six months later Meghan’s life underwent an enormous change after she was set up with the Duke of Sussex.
During the couple’s first sit-down interview upon announcing their engagement, they opened up about their first meeting.
Meghan said she didn’t have many preconceived notions of Harry before they met, telling the BBC in 2017: “Because I’m from the States you don’t grow up with the same understanding of the Royal Family.

“I didn’t know much about him, so the only thing that I had asked [our mutual friend] when she said that she wanted to set us up was, ‘Well is he nice?’ Because if he wasn’t kind it just didn’t seem like it would make sense.”
Meghan also admitted that the couple hit it off immediately, and were very quick to go on their second date.
She said: “We met for a drink and then I think very quickly into that we said, ‘Well what are you doing tomorrow? We should meet again.”
At the photocall in Kensington Palace gardens following Harry and Meghan’s engagement announcement Harry was asked when he knew Meghan was the one.
He quickly replied: “The very first time we met.”
After just weeks of dating, Harry persuaded Meghan to join him on a trip to Botswana, where the couple camped with each other under the stars.
When asked about the romantic getaway, Harry told the BBC: “Then we were really by ourselves which was crucial to me to make sure that we had a chance to get to know each other.”
Harry and Meghan have endured a tumultuous relationship with the Royal Family after they quit the Firm in 2020.
The move caused much controversy while the couple’s subsequent high profile interviews have widened the family rift.
In particular, last year Harry and Meghan made a number of explosive claims about royal life in a CBS interview with Oprah Winfrey.
