Meghan Markle’s name quietly erased from Archie’s birth certificate
Meghan’s first names were quietly removed from her son Archie’s birth certificate in an unusual move.
The birth certificate for the youngster, now aged four, was altered to show his mother as “Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex” instead of “Rachel Meghan” as it originally did.
Archie was born on May 6, 2019, and his birth was registered 11 days later before an amendment was made on June 5.
Revealing the unusual alteration, the Sun reported this was a “snub” to Prince William and Princess Kate, who used Kate’s names on their children’s certificates.
But a spokesman for the Sussexes insisted that the move was “dictated by The Palace”, rather than a decision by Meghan.

Commentators also suggested the intention was to place Meghan on an equal footing with Prince Harry’s mother Princess Diana, who would always use “Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales”.
It was only days after the alteration that the Sussexes left the Fab Four’s joint charity – and months later, left the Royal Family entirely.
Lady Colin Campbell, who discovered the amendment, said: “It is extraordinary and raises all kinds of questions about what the Sussexes were thinking.”

Meanwhile Queen Elizabeth’s ex-press secretary Dickie Arbiter suggested: “Maybe this was an early part of their plan.”
Royal reporter Omid Scobie, author of Finding Freedom – a biography of the pair written with contributions from a close friend of Meghan – tweeted a statement from a spokesman for the couple addressing the change.
The statement claimed the change of the name was “dictated by The Palace, as confirmed by documents from senior Palace officials”.
It added that claims the decision was a “snub” to other members of the Royal Family “would be laughable were it not offensive”.
Meghan also uses her Royal title in other areas of her life, such as for her children’s book The Bench, for which her author name was listed as Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
Harry and Meghan have since moved to North America and welcomed their second child, Lilibet – whose birth certificate used different names again.
In this case, according to TMZ – which claims to have seen Lili’s birth certificate – the Duchess had her name down as “Rachel Meghan Markle”.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry reportedly listed his first and last name on Lili’s birth certificate as “the Duke of Sussex, His Royal Highness,” which is also a change from what he used for Archie’s certificate, which was: “His Royal Highness Henry Charles Albert David Duke of Sussex.”
Unlike UK birth certificates, the US required Meghan’s maiden name and Harry’s legal name for the certificate.
