The New Yorker opened up about his “authentic” relationship with the former royal during a video call with Entertainment Tonight on Saturday. Daniel, who is believed to have first met Meghan more than 10 years ago during her Suits days, praised the 38-year-old for her wide-reaching appeal.

He said: “She is contemporary and she resonates on so many levels because here is someone we all know, we all have a friend who looks like her, who is marrying into this establishment which was very one-way, one perspective.”

He added: “I feel like globally she resonates on so many levels not only because of how she looks but who she is.”

Since doing Meghan’s wedding day makeup, Daniel has won praise for giving the bride a natural look when the eyes of the world were fixated on her.

Meghan has also been lauded for refusing to cover up her freckles on her big day.

Daniel explained how his aim was more to help Meghan feel good about herself as opposed to making her look like a typical royal bride.

He said: “My goal that day was just to make sure my friend felt good on her wedding day.

“It wasn’t about the spectacle of who she was marrying, the wedding.

“I just wanted her to feel as beautiful as she did like any bride on her wedding day.”

He went on to discuss his bond with Meghan, who last month celebrated her second anniversary with Prince Harry, 35.

Entertainment Tonight presenter Melicia Johnson then turned the conversation to one of Daniel’s videos.

In it, he discussed how a mother told him his makeup tactics had personally affected her.

The woman said Daniel’s artistry had shown her how to use makeup to show her natural beauty as a woman of colour – and her daughter had also been inspired.

Daniel responded: “I’m very fortunate that we’re authentic friends so I feel like I have to do and be as good because we’re all in this together.

“She gave me this incredible gift and now it’s my responsibility to share that.”

Model Veronica Webb also joined in on the video chat.

She and Daniel discussed the importance of representing the black community in the fashion and beauty industries.

Meghan and Harry celebrated their second wedding anniversary in lockdown.

The couple reminisced about their big day by video calling close friends and sharing memories.

They finished off the day with margaritas and Mexican food, according to royal biographer Omid Scobie.

Meghan and Harry have been keeping a low profile as they settle into their new lives in Hollywood, although they have been seen out and about wearing masks as they volunteer for a local charity.
