Meghan and Harry are reportedly renovating a guesthouse at their Montecito, California home for Doria Ragland. The Sussexes moved into their £11 million home at the end of July, after stepping back from the Royal Family at the end of March. Harry recently said he was “grateful” for the space and luxury of their new home.

A source close to the couple has revealed Meghan’s mother will be moving into the Sussexes new home.

The first project Meghan and Harry are undertaking on their California property is converting the guesthouse for Ms Ragland.

The source said: “They’re converting one of the guesthouses into a home for Doria, who plans to split her time between L.A. and Montecito.”

Meghan and Harry’s Santa Barbara home is about an hour north of Los Angeles.

Ms Ragland’s move-in has been reported as something the Sussexes have been wanting for a while.

Another close source told the Sun in May they were hoping for Meghan’s mum to move in after the coronavirus restrictions were lifted.

They said: “Once quarantine and lockdown are over, Harry and Meghan will be moving into their new pad — and they want Doria to be included in these plans.

“She is hugely independent though, and doesn’t want to be in their space. She will have her own granny annexe.”

Ms Ragland, 63-years-old, was formerly a social worker in the mental health sector from 2015 to 2018.

But she stepped down from the health sector after Meghan and Harry were married in 2018.

The Daily Mail revealed recently she has taken up teaching people how to make homemade jewellery to supplement her finances.

Ms Ragland ran sessions at Santa Monica College with lessons costing between £29 and £33, but they are currently on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Meghan and Harry are close with Ms Ragland, spending their first wedding anniversary with her.

According to Finding Freedom, a biography about the Sussex royals, the couple chose to spend their special day with Meghan’s mum.

Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, co-authors, said in the book: “On the anniversary of their first year of marriage, Harry and Meghan enjoyed a traditional Sunday lunch with Doria, her last meal before travelling back to LA.

“Her five weeks at Frogmore had flown by, but she had to get back to work.”

The Sussexes new home has nine bedrooms and 19 bathrooms, and they will be renovating a detached guesthouse with two bedrooms and bathrooms for Ms Ragland.

Harry recently poured praise on his and Meghan’s new home in a video call for the Rugby Football League’s 125th anniversary.

He said: “I’m just unbelievably fortunate and grateful to have outdoor space and see my son be able to be outside, because I know so many people just haven’t had that opportunity in the last five months.

“Our little man is our number one priority but our work after that is the second priority and we’re just trying to do everything we can to do our part to make the world a better place.”
