The interview, which took place on Thursday evening, discussed the new lives of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after their move away from the Royal Family and also revealed a glimpse of their son Archie. However the show, which received a mixed response from royal fans, has been criticised by Meghan’s father.

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, Mr Markle Sr, 77, branded the interview “embarrassing”.

He said: “It’s no way to behave.

“The whole thing was kind of embarrassing.

“It was certainly embarrassing for the Royal Family.

“It’s embarrassing for her as well.

“I suspect it embarrassed everyone in the UK, too.

“She’s putting herself out there as a duchess but I’ve never seen a duchess behave this way, doing stupid stunts.”

The interview covered a wide range of topics, with Meghan sharing her enjoyment at having two children with Prince Harry.

She also revealed what it’s like being a parent to multiple children, describing having only one child as a hobby and having two as a real test of parenting.

Despite the harsh criticism from her father, royal experts and fans of the duchess have leapt to her defence online.

Omid Scobie, author of the Sussex’s unofficial biography, claimed Meghan had merely appeared on television and had not done anything wrong.

He wrote on Twitter: “People do realise that it was just a daytime TV appearance and not a war crime, right?”

Twitter commenters seemed to agree with Mr Scobie, with one user named Joanna, saying: “Exactly. Unhappy people always lash out at happy people and Meghan and Harry are clearly very very happy.

“It must be infuriating all the haters!”

Another user, Angela added: “I can just imagine what’s being said by some.

“She only has to breathe and she will be criticized for doing it wrong.”

Meghan Markle’s interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show aired in the US on CBS at 8pm. It will be broadcast on ITV2 within a week of its US release.
