Meghan Markle’s claim there was neither a “class” nor people giving guidance to her on etiquette when she joined the Firm has been branded a “total lie” by a source. They told The Sunday Times: “There was prep for everything, walkabouts — even though she was engaged to someone who’d done hundreds of them — clothes, everything. The level of support was intense.”

The Duchess was also presented with a 30-point dossier by Ed Lane Fox, known as “Elf”, six months before her nuptials in May 2018, the newspaper claimed.

The dossier by Mr Lane Fox, who was at the time the Duke of Sussex’s private secretary, reportedly provided the then actress with vital information she may need for the life she was about to begin, ranging from fashion to the British constitution, from arts in the UK to ladies-in-waiting.

Moreover, each section is said to have included an expert the Duchess could contact for help.

Speaking about Mr Lane Fox’s effort, a source also claimed he worked to give Meghan “access to anyone, and he gave her books on the stuff.”

Express.co.uk has contacted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s representatives at Archewell for comment. 

This rebuttal comes after the Duchess of Sussex mentioned in the third episode of the Harry & Meghan docu-series the popular film The Princess Diaries.

In it, Mia Thermopolis, played by Anna Hathaway, is provided with full-on lessons on how to speak, dress and behave after she discovers to be a princess and heir to the throne of the made-up kingdom of Genovia.

That, Meghan told her interviewer in the documentary, was not her experience.

She said: “There’s no class and some person who goes, ‘Sit like this. Cross your legs like this. Use this fork. Don’t do this. Curtsy then. Wear this kind of hat.’ It doesn’t happen.”

In the episode, Meghan confessed she had never seen pictures or videos of a walkabout before it was arranged for her and Harry to carry out their first joint engagement in Nottingham in the run-up to their wedding. 

Harry, sitting next to her, said: “I could talk her through as much as I knew from my own experience of what I’d seen.

“The piece I really didn’t know about was the style, right, and what a woman needed to, how they needed to dress and all that.”

This wasn’t the first time Meghan claimed she was not provided help adjusting to the protocol existing for working Royal Family members. 

Speaking with Oprah Winfrey in early 2021, the Duchess said: “There was no guidance, as well, right? There were certain things that you couldn’t do. But, you know, unlike what you see in the movies, there’s no class on how to speak, how to cross your legs, how to be royal.

“There’s none of that training. That might exist for other members of the family. That was not something that was offered to me.”

Similarly to what she suggested in Harry & Meghan, the Duchess also told Ms Winfrey “no one thought to say, ‘Oh, you are American, you are not going to know [the national anthem]’.”

Rather, Meghan said, she had to Google it “late at night”.
