Simone Burns Dilley gave an insight into Meghan and Harry’s whirlwind romance in a new episode of E! True Hollywood Story! Ms Dilley said she was “excited” when she first heard Meghan and Harry were dating, but acknowledged she was “worried” about how things may turn out. In the programme aired on Monday night, Ms Dilley stated she had prior concerns about how the former American actress would be portrayed in the public eye.

She said: “We were excited for her. But I can be honest, at the same time, I was worried.”

Ms Dilley added: “She was divorced, she’s half-Black. I was like, ‘Oh my god, they’re gonna be so mean to her’.”

Royal biographer Andrew Morton told the same show there is “absolutely nothing” that “can prepare you for that, kind of, jet blast of publicity that comes with dating a member of the Royal Family”.

Meghan and Harry started dating in the summer of 2016 after being introduced to one another by a mutual friend.

The couple announced their engagement in late 2017 before getting married in May, 2018.

In their engagement interview, Meghan gave an insight into how they first met.

She said: “I didn’t know much about him, so the only thing that I had asked [our mutual friend] when she said that she wanted to set us up, was, ‘Well is he nice?’

“Cause if he wasn’t kind, it just didn’t seem like it would make sense.”

Meghan added: “We met for a drink and then I think very quickly into that we said, ‘Well what are we doing tomorrow? We should meet again.'”

Meghan and Harry recently took part in a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey and the couple shared their life experiences inside and outside The Firm.

Issues surrounding race featured heavily in the heartfelt discussion.

Meghan accused an unnamed member of the Royal Family of issuing a racial slur in discussion about her unborn child, Archie.

Harry also hit out at his family for not speaking out on alleged racism directed towards Meghan in the media

He said: “No one from my family ever said anything over those three years. That hurts.”

When asked by Oprah if the couple left the UK because of racism, Harry replied: “It was a large part of it.”

Buckingham Palace said the Royal Family was “saddened” to hear about the “challenging the last few years” for the couple.

The Palace added the issues raised surrounding race were “concerning”, and insisted “some recollections may vary”, the firm added it would be dealt with in private.

The two-hour interview was watched by more than 11 million ITV viewers on March 8.

At the start of the discussion, Meghan admitted she went into her relationship with Harry “naively”.

She said: “I would say I went into it naively because I didn’t grow up knowing much about the Royal Family. It wasn’t part of something that was part of conversation at home.

“It wasn’t something that we followed. My mum even said to me a couple of months ago, ‘Did Diana ever do an interview?’ Now I can say. ‘Yes, a very famous one’, but my mum doesn’t know that.”

Meghan added she didn’t know what it meant to be a working member of the Royal Family.

She said: “There was no way to understand what the day-to-day was going to be like, and it’s so different because I didn’t romanticise any element of it.

“But I think, as Americans especially, what you do know about the royals is what you read in fairytales, and you think is what you know about the royals.

“It’s easy to have an image that is so far from reality, and that’s what was so tricky over those past few years, when the perception and the reality are two different things and you’re being judged on the perception but you’re living the reality of it.

“There’s a complete misalignment and there’s no way to explain that to people.”
