Meghan Markle: When are Meghan Markle and Prince Harry taking Archie to South Africa?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry revealed on their SussexRoyal Instagram page last month that their trip was at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The royal couple said they were “excited” to have been asked, adding Harry would make short additional solo stops to Malawi, Botswana and Angola. The visit was confirmed by the British High Commissioner to South Africa Nigel Casey who joked of a “hat and frock-buying frenzy which could well restore economic growth all on its own”. He stated Meghan and Harry’s visit would be “days and not months”.

Kensington Palace has yet to reveal official tour dates.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s statement only revealed they will be travelling this autumn.

However, Meghan and Harry did reveal their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, will be coming along for his overseas trip.

The Instagram post stated: “This will be their first official tour as a family!”

Autumn has two start dates depending on whether people refer to the astronomical or meteorological autumn, although the latter is more likely as a general rule of thumb.

The meteorological autumn begins on September 1 and runs until November 30 so the visit could occur any time between these two dates.

Archie will turn five-months-old on October 6, 2019, having been born in May.

He and Meghan are expected to stay in South Africa while Harry completes additional visits to Malawi, Angola and Botswana.

Africa is dear to the Duke and Duchesses’ hearts, with Harry previously calling it his “second home”.

The sixth-in-line spent considerable time working on conservation projects in Namibia, Tanzania, Botswana and South Africa after leaving the army in 2015.

He will also be keen to honour the memory of his late mother, Princess Diana, who campaigned for the removal of landmines in Angola before her death.

Meghan has also travelled to Africa several times with Harry including a romantic visit to Botswana in the early stages of their relationship.

Their secret trip in the summer of 2016 followed two meetings in London and happened before the world found out that they were dating.

Speaking about it at a later date, Harry said: “I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana.

“We camped out with each other under the stars. She came and joined me for five days out there, which was absolutely fantastic.

“So then we were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure that we had a chance to know each other.”

The couple released a picture of a subsequent trip in 2017 to Botswana on Instagram back in April.

They were seen fixing a tracking collar to a sedated elephant, working side by side in casual clothes and baseball caps.
