Royal expert Omid Scobie discussed details of an apparent feud between Meghan Markle and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge. While on his podcast Heirpod with guest commentator Maggie Rulli, Mr Scobie argued Meghan was disappointed she could not rely on Kate as she struggled to become part of the Royal Family. Mr Scobie argued Meghan would have benefited from having a female friend within the Royal Family to support her as she grappled with the difficulties of being a senior Royal Family member.

Ms Rulli said: “I think in your book a lot of people had questions about what happened between Kate and Meghan.

“This royal fan asked it seems that both Kate and Meghan love tennis, fashion and to cook, I don’t understand how they had nothing in common except for living at Kensington Palace, why didn’t it work?”

Mr Scobie argued the two were never at war but have always been two very different people.

He said: “They do love fashion and tennis but these are very surface-level things.

“One of the things the book goes into detail about is how Meghan and Kate were never at war or were the duelling Duchesses.

“They were just two women who had this very surface-level friendship.”

Mr Scobie went into greater detail of the pair’s dynamic and what he believes Meghan wanted from Kate.

He said: “In those moments where more depth was required or a stronger shoulder of support from the Duchess of Cambridge’s side we saw that that didn’t happen.

“It was one of the things that really left Meghan a bit disappointed in that friendship.

“There were times where I think Meghan would have appreciated that extra support internally.”

Despite his assessment, Mr Scobie also defended Kate’s distance from Meghan.

He said: “It is clear that at the time Kate’s priorities were elsewhere.

“We do see her as an incredibly dedicated mother, wife and member of the Royal Family.”

Mr Scobie is the co-author of the new unofficial biography of Meghan and Prince Harry, Finding Freedom, and has insisted that neither were directly involved in its creations.

Mr Scobie has also argued that the revelations from the book are from his years of interviewing and researching the pair through speaking to royal officials, friends and family of Meghan and Harry.
