TalkRadio’s Kevin O’Sullivan discussed Meghan Markle’s 40×40 project with journalist Dawn Neesom on his show. On her birthday, the Duchess of Sussex released a video calling on 40 of her friends to give 40 minutes to mentor a woman trying to get back into the workplace. However, Meghan has received mixed support for this latest project.

Mr O’Sullivan argued that it could prove to be dangerous as celebrities would then attempt to give out advice on topics normally reserved for experts like social workers.

Ms Neesom also argued it was patronising and would not prove useful for many women.

Ms Neesom said: “For Meghan to try and tell any of us that giving 40 minutes of my time is important.

“Kevin, we should be doing this every single minute of every single day.

“How is a 40-minute chat with Adele, for example, I’m not picking on her or anything, how is that going to help a middle-class woman in Middlesbrough get back in the workplace, it is not.”

Mr O’Sullivan agreed and then began mocking the Duchess while putting on an American accent.

He went on to argue that the advice from celebrities may not necessarily be useful.

He said: “It is just a press release.

“Worse than that, women’s groups today have come out and said it may well be dangerous.

“This is because you are asking these famous friends of Meghan to dispense professional advice.

“The sort of advice that trained social workers are trained to give out.

“So just asking an amateur who happens to be famous to talk to, I use this term loosely, ordinary woman to get her back to work is not only a ridiculous concept that won’t work.

“But on top of that it could be dangerous.”

Despite the mixed reception, some praised the Duchess of Sussex for shedding light on issues that she cared about.

Many took to Twitter to express their support for the initiative.

One Twitter user wrote: “This is an amazing initiative that aligns with Meghan’s ethos of spreading kindness and compassion.

“While also helping to uplift women and their communities.”

Another added: “What a lovely initiative.

“She is always looking for ways to uplift other women.

Another impressed fan wrote: “I just love how Meghan and Harry continue to use their platform and the global coverage to highlight worthy causes.

“I hope this gets politicians to push for more help and funding for women to return to the workforce.”
