Meghan Markle jetted off to South Africa with husband Prince Harry and four-month-old son Archie Harrison on Monday for their first royal tour as a family. On Tuesday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the Auwal Mosque in Bo-Kaap, Cape Town, with Meghan sporting a long khaki dress and a white headscarf. As royal fans said the Duchess was channelling the style her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, opted for while on tour but TV presenter Jeremy Vine warned Meghan the move could prove to be “dangerous” for her. 

Mr Vine said: “Do you think the headscarf is an accident or is she channeling Diana? That’s dangerous.”

While not expanding on his statement, the TV presented noted the Duchess has been enjoying “much better publicity” since the tour of South Africa kicked off compared to an onslaught of criticism aimed at both Meghan and Prince Harry in previous months.

He continued: “Meghan is getting much better publicity now she’s abroad.

“I do love her but I think she gets a really bad rep – I don’t quite understand why suddenly the media likes her.”

Commentator Carole Malone suggested the positive reviews Meghan has been getting on the tour are the result of the painstaking efforts of her new PR team. 

PR experts Shawn Cash and Keleigh Thomas Morgan, who previously worked with the Duchess of Sussex when she still worked as an actress, are believed to have resumed their collaboration with Meghan while she worked on her guest-edit of Vogue earlier this year.

Ms Malone said: “She’s employed a PR agency, a US-based PR agency called Sunshine Sachs, and they are renown for dealing with crisis management situations.

“To me, it looks like their hand is across a lot of this. This is a classic Diana picture, this is what Diana did.”

She added: “And with her speech where she was talking about, ‘I’m your sister, I’m this and that’ – she’s had the best two days she’s had in the past six months.”

The Duchess of Sussex on Monday surprised members of the Justice Desk charity she and Prince Harry visited as she delivered a speech to voice her support for the community of the Nyanga township in Cape Town. 

Meghan said: “While I am here with my husband as a member of the Royal Family, I am here with you as a woman, as a wife, as a woman of colour and as your sister.

“I am here with you and I am here for you.”

Before Prince Harry separated from his family to attend to additional duties in Angola, Malawi and Botswana, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex took with them their son Archie to meet legendary anti-apartheid activist Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his daughter Thandeka at the Tutu Legacy headquarters.

Archie’s surprise public appearance marks his first official engagement, and has been shared by Meghan and Harry on Instagram, with the couple publishing a brief video of the family’s arrival on Instagram stories.

Prior to today, the four-month-old was seen in public only at a charity polo match in July and upon arriving in South Africa on Monday.

The little Sussex looked all smiles as he arrived in his mother’s arms holding Meghan’s thumb in his little hand.

Giggling Archie debuted in the royal tour wearing pale blue dungarees and white romper with matching socks.
