Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in January announced they would take a step back from their royal careers to pursue a more independent path for themselves and their family. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were expected to launch their new non-profit organisation Archewell in the spring but were forced to delay their plans because of the pandemic. Royal commentator Marlene Koenig told Express.co.uk the couple is likely to have “bigger dreams” outside of the Royal Family as she dismissed suggestions Meghan Markle could revert back to her acting career to fund their plans.

Speaking to the website in May, Ms Koenig said: “There were guidelines and they’re still available but it’s not what the Sussexes wanted to do.

“I think they have bigger dreams and whether they’re successful or not, it will depend on time.

“They certainly want to help other people. I think there’s far too many stories about how she wants to go back to acting. I sincerely doubt that.”

The Duchess of Sussex made her debut outside of the Royal Family in May when Disney released a new documentary to which Meghan had lent her voice as a narrator.

But the project was filmed months before the Duke and Duchess announced their plans to depart the Royal Family, suggesting acting may not be the path Meghan wants to follow in the future.

While the pair mostly kept a low profile through the lockdown, Meghan and Harry were repeatedly spotted volunteering to support the vulnerable communities in their new home of Los Angeles.

Sources close to the couple have suggested they are now focussing their efforts on supporting the Black Lives Matter movemement and helping with the coronavirus recovery.

Meghan Markle received widespread praise for a speech she gave to the graduating class of 2020 at her former LA high school in which she discussed the murder of George Floyd and her personal experience with racism.

A spokeswoman for the couple said Meghan “felt compelled to directly address and speak to these young women about what’s happening in this country right now around the killing of George Floyd—as well as what’s been happening over many, many years and many, many generations to countless other black Americans.”

One royal insider said: “They are hands on, working nonstop on the development of Archewell and it’s giving them a lot of energy.

“They want to see positive and substantive change happen in this world, and they want to lift up the voices and platforms of dynamic and diverse leaders of all kinds who are already making that change a reality.

“They want to focus on supporting and strengthening community.”

Prince Harry announced plans to step down after returning to the UK at the end of a six-week family break spent in Canada with Meghan and their son Archie.

The Duke of Sussex conducted talks with the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William to decided on his future role within the Royal Family after suggesting he and the Duchess could continued working while reducing the amount of engagements carried out.

The pair ultimately agreed to a one-year trial to test the waters and establish themselves away from their royal life.

Her Majesty agreed to have the pair maintain their HRH titles but insisted they do not use it for financial gain, and she also ruled Harry and Meghan could no longer work under the Sussex Royal brand they established after their marriage in 2018.
