After it was revealed Meghan has applied to reactive the trademark name of The Tig, her successful lifestyle blog, an analysis found online searches for “how to start a blog” rose to an “unprecedented” high. The volume of online searches related to launching a blog skyrocketed to 800 percent, research by creative resource Design Bundles has found.

This spike amounts to almost nine times the average volume and happened on the night between January 30 and 31.

As this online event comes just hours following wide speculation the Duchess of Sussex may relaunch her popular blog, researchers who noticed this major surge believe it was created by Meghan’s worldwide influence.

A spokesperson for Design Bundles commented on the findings: “Meghan Markle has been one of the most influential women on the planet since she joined the Royal Family and these findings only emphasise that.

“The rise in searches for those wishing to follow in Meghan’s footsteps and start their own blogs is unprecedented, showing that even a small action by the Duchess can cause a ripple effect across the world.

“If ‘The Tig’ does come back, royal fans can expect to see content surrounding matters that are close to the Duchess’ heart, such as discussions around mental health, travel, campaigning, personal updates and reviews.”

Meghan’s ability to set trends has often been noted over the past years, when the outfits she donned in public immediately went sold out or causes she championed were flooded by support from members of the public.

New interest surrounding The Tig emerged over the weekend, when the Mail on Sunday reported publicly available records in the US which showed Los Angeles lawyer Marjorie Witter Norman filed an application to trademark the name The Tig in July last year.

This application was filed under a Delaware-based holding company called Frim Fram Inc, linked to Meghan’s business manager Andrew Meyer.

Fans of the Sussexes rejoiced at the news, hoping this new application means Meghan is thinking to bring back her once-popular blog.

Commenting on the report, Twitter user @DankIsMeIAmShe wrote: “That’s good! The Tig was always fantastic!”

Another, @akisoyoyo said: “Dear Meghan Markle, it’s time to bring back The Tig.”

However, this new filing may have been done simply to avoid the name of the Duchess’ former blog is taken by someone else.

A similar application was filed in 2019 and would have expired last year.

At the time, a representative for the Duchess said: “The lasting trademark is to prevent false branding, to avoid others purporting to be the Duchess or affiliated with her.”

Meghan founded The Tig in 2014, when she was a member of the cast of US procedural drama Suits.

On its web pages, she discussed topics close to her heart – from food to travel, from activism to her family.

Its name was inspired by Tignanello, a Tuscany wine Meghan fell in love with years prior.

Speaking about first trying it, she wrote on her blog: “So there I am, with very minimal wine knowledge and I take a sip of this wine.

“It wasn’t just red or white – suddenly I understood what people meant by the body, legs, structure of wine. It was an ah-ha moment at its finest.

“For me, it became a ‘Tig’ moment – a moment of getting it.

“From that point on, any new awareness, any new discovery or ‘ohhhhh, I get it!’ moment was a ‘Tig’ moment.”

The lifestyle blog was shut down in April 2017, a few months before Meghan’s engagement with Prince Harry.

In her last message to her readers, Meghan described the blog as a “passion project” that eventually “evolved into an amazing community of inspiration, support, fun and frivolity”.
