Meghan Markle has celebrated the one-year anniversary of the launch of her Smart Set Capsule Collection with Smart Works. The charity provides unemployed women with outfits for job interviews, and has been a major focus for the Duchess of Sussex since she became a royal. Meghan spoke to three recent clients via video call and shared some advice, a video which sparked a big online reaction.
She told them: “As women, so often it’s easy to forget all of your skills and your assets.
“Not that they’re not there, but you need someone sometimes to point them out for you.
“The women who volunteer at Smart Works, especially with the mentor programme, are not pointing out something that doesn’t exist.
“They’re seeing it in you for the first time. I think that is critical.”
The Duchess continued: “People can say that so much of Smart Works is about the clothes themselves but it’s really not.
“All of that stuff is the exterior but it’s what it does for you on the inside that ends up being the best accessory.
“It’s the confidence, it’s what is built within, that is the piece that you walk out of that room with and walk into the interview with.
“That will take you to the next layer of success, and that’s what I love so much about the organisation.”
One user on YouTube commented on the video, saying: “This is really great. I bought a lot from the Smart Set capsule. Great initiative, great people. Thank you Meghan and Smart Works ladies for giving us the opportunity to help uplift other women.”
Another named Dee T agreed: “This was an amazing project! I loved participating by purchasing items and knowing that it would also be helping someone else. Thanks so much Meghan, Smart Works and everyone who participated to make this successful!”
Alisha Lindsay added: “Happy anniversary, well done to you all, and it’s wonderful to see the Duchess of Sussex.”
