Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor was baptised at a private chapel at Windsor Castle on July 6 2019. The royal baby was just two months old when he was christened, surrounded by senior members of the family.

But Queen Elizabeth II, his great-grandmother was not in attendance.

The official reason given by the Royal Family was that she had a prior commitment.

Her Majesty was also absent at Prince Louis’ baptism ceremony at The Chapel Royal of St James’s Palace in 2018.

However, according to a new book, the Queen missing her great-grandson’s important event indicates there had been an issue.

The new book Royals at War theorises that the baptism came after years of tension between the Queen and Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle.

Royals at War suggests she wanted to make a statement by being absent from the high-profile ceremony.

In the book, journalists Dylan Howard and Andy Tillett wrote: “Pointedly, the Queen and Prince Philip stayed away.

“They had been generous and understanding at their best.

“But they simply now felt publicly embarrassed by Meghan’s controlling behaviour, said a well-placed Palace insider.”

Meghan and the Queen have sparked public interest for some time and it has only intensified since the Duchess filed a privacy lawsuit against the Daily Mail’s parent company.

In the legal documents, Meghan claimed she was left “undefended by the institution” of the Royal Family while she was pregnant with Archie.

She also claimed she had been “prohibited from defending herself” against negative and false news around her life.

“So many people have done such an incredible job of acknowledging the past and trying to right those wrongs, but I think we all acknowledge there is so much more still to do.

“It’s not going to be easy and in some cases it’s not going to be comfortable, but it needs to be done, because, guess what, everybody benefits.”
