Meghan Markle skipping Coronation ‘out of fear of being booed’
Megyn Kelly: Meghan Markle scared to be booed at Coronation
Meghan Markle has turned down her invitation to King Charles’s Coronation because she fears being booed at the event, a commentator has claimed. American media personality Megyn Kelly suggested TV viewers will be “booing loudly” regardless, and was sure Prince Harry would face a similar reaction.
Buckingham Palace announced last week that Prince Harry will be attending his father’s coronation in May – but without the company of his wife, Meghan.
The Duchess will instead remain home in California with their children Lilibet, 1, and Archie, whose 4th birthday falls on the same day as the King’s historic event.
Speaking to Sky News Australia, Ms Kelly suggested the reason Meghan will not be coming to the event is that she “couldn’t stomach the thought of being booed”.
She added the Duchess “couldn’t stand the thought of returning to England and having the cameras go on her and having everyone do what I will be doing at home, which is: boo!”
Ms Kelly said Harry will not be spared the same treatment, commenting: “Mark my words, Harry’s getting booed. 100 percent.
“But he’s at least the son, he kind of has to do it.”
Meghan, on the other hand, has an “excuse” in the form of Archie’s birthday.
But the commentator was insistent that what Meghan “should really worry about” was that everyone would be booing her from home regardless.
The fierce critic said: “I’ve got news for her. We’re booing loudly from our couches whether she can hear us or not.”
However, others have been more positive about the impact of Harry attending the event.
Life coach and hypnotherapist Vicki Bahra said situations like this “bring a family together” and Prince Harry still has “love and care” for his family.
She told Express.co.uk: “I feel that situations like this which bring the family together – a family which has such a unique bond and a lot of love, is slowly making everyone within the family remember what they did have and how special it was. So it could be an important building block towards a future reconciliation.”

Ms Bahra added: “I think any reconciliation will be made after a huge amount of thought, discussion and time from all parts and if Harry and Meghan did decide to reconcile with the family, it would be likely that it would be done out of mutual choice and for the right reasons so I would think there would be a mutual agreement that everyone would try to make this a positive relationship and role in the family.”
And if Prince Harry does face a negative reception from the crowd, a royal expert has suggested he may be able to turn to Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall for support.
Speaking to Fox News, Kinsey Schofield said: “Duty is still a priority to Harry, and he feels like it is his responsibility to attend. That being said, expect familiar and friendly characters like cousins Zara Tindall and Princess Eugenie to make small talk with the ‘exiled’ prince.”
There has been rumour that Harry may be hoping for a reconciliation with his brother Prince William during the event, but this seems unlikely with the Duke of Sussex flying in for a swift visit before returning home to celebrate Prince Archie’s fourth birthday.
