Meghan Markle setting off on ‘wrong foot’ by ‘DEPRIVING public’ of royal baby news

Meghan Markle, 37, and Prince Harry, 34, are due to have their first child any day now but the royal couple has made the “personal decision” not to share details of the birth until they had time to “celebrate privately”. The British author said she agrees Meghan does not have to do a photocall following the birth but insisted the public are “entitled” to know the news of the birth.

I am asking that they show some grace and respect to the public

Anna May Mangan

Speaking on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, the author said: “It’s about the announcement. They should sack the PR person who came up with that idea. They could have had all their time with that baby on their own for as long as they wanted because we wouldn’t have known it was here.

“But it is kind of saying the princess of hugs is now saying ‘step away from me’ and ‘this is only about me’.

“Funny, because her wedding wasn’t only about her and the security that we paid for around her wedding wasn’t only about her. And the country desperately needs some joy and she is depriving us of that.”

Ms Mangan said the announcement is “setting on the wrong foot” and insisted the royals are different from the public.

She added: “I am asking that they show some grace and respect to the public who have supported them so much and announce the baby is here because we are all waiting.”

The author said Meghan is being “very precious” about the situation and insisted the public is “entitled to know because it is a royal baby”.

The couple’s Royal Household, Buckingham Palace, said in a statement: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby.

“The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”

The indication there will be no photocall is in contrast to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge who posed outside the Lindo Wing soon after Kate had all three of their children.

The statement follows growing speculation the Duchess could go for a home birth at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

An insider claimed it was a likely option after the US-born former actress had “sailed” through her pregnancy.

The source told the Daily Mail: “It is her favoured choice but it obviously depends on how things are nearer the time.”

Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey, where the Countess of Wessex gave birth to her children, has also been suggested as it is close to Meghan and Harry’s new house.
