Meghan Markle secret: How subtle clue reveals Meghan stressed and unhappy with Royal life
Meghan Markle and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge were among senior royals to join Queen Elizabeth II for her official birthday celebrations on Saturday. Both Duchesses looked the part as they stood on Buckingham Palace’s balcony to watch Trooping the Colour. But there was a striking difference to how Meghan and Kate were dressed.
While Kate wore a buttermilk yellow frock, Meghan wore a navy blue gown.
Meghan often favours darker colours for big royal events, while Kate seems to enjoy a splash of colour.
New mum Meghan has only made two appearances since giving birth to baby Archie Harrison last month.
Two days after little Archie was born the Duchess appeared in front of cameras wearing a smart white blazer dress and nude heels.
Meghan has previously wowed at public events in a string of stunning white gowns, so she’s clearly a fan of the neutral shade.
She has also worn bright blue, emerald green and red on occasion but more often than not seems to favour darker shades.
When it comes to Buckingham Palace events, Meghan Markle has opted for navy blue more than once.
The Duchess wore navy blue to watch the RAF centenary flypast at Buckingham Palace in July 2018.
Her outfit contrasted with Kate’s on that occasion too as Prince William’s wife was dressed in a bright pale blue.
Meghan hinted at her preference for dark colours when discussing her suits character, Rachel Zane, in 2015.
She told InStyle at the time: “You’ll notice that in season two when Rachel’s [Zane] falling in love with Mike, I wear more blush tones.
“And season one when she’s really all about business, I wear more charcoal greys and blacks.”
She explained that she applies the same rules to her own wardrobe choices.
Meghan said: “I think our clothes are such a reflection of how we’re feeling.
“If you’re in love, you’re probably going to wear things that make you feel like more romantic when you put them on.
“Or when you’re going through a stressful time, the same can be said for wearing things that are more monochrome or darker in tone.”
While Meghan’s dark-coloured outfits could suggest that she is stressed, wearing more muted shades may allow her to stay out of the limelight when royal duty is at hand.
Meghan has also previously stated she feels more comfortable in black.
The Duchess of Sussex’s devotion to dark clothes sets her apart from other royals.
The Queen is famous for dressing in vibrant shades and has worn every colour from shocking pink to lime green.
The Duchess of Cambridge is also a fan of bright-coloured clothes.
One of Kate’s most notable outfits in recent weeks was a striking yellow floral print dress she wore ahead of the Chelsea Flower Show.
As Prince William’s wife and future Queen Consort of England, it could be that Kate is trying to follow Queen Elizabeth’s fashion lead.
