Meghan Markle royal snub: How Meghan has broken royal protocol once again

Meghan Markle has been a somewhat divisive figure since she was revealed to have spent £2.4million of taxpayer money renovating Frogmore Cottage ahead of the arrival of her and Prince Harry’s son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The former American actress has repeatedly faced criticism, most recently being branded a hypocrite after using a private jet four times over 11 days, despite advocating for climate change. The former actress was praised by Anna Wintour earlier this year for “bringing modernity to the royal family”, but not everyone agrees with the Duchess’s breaches of royal protocol. So how exactly has Meghan broken royal protocol this time?

Meghan Markle, 38, is the wife of Prince Harry and mother of the seventh in line to the throne, baby Archie Harrison.

The former actress has faced backlash this week after it was reported she is working with Hollywood advisors ahead of the launch of her first children’s book.

These advisors being used by the Duchess are said to have first worked with the royal when she was an actress of hit US legal drama Suits.

Insiders reportedly said the move goes against royal protocol as her projects should be handed by palace employees.

According to the Sun, Meghan has been receiving advice from Hollywood agent Nick Collins, lawyer Rick Genow and business manager Andrew Meyer.

Mr Collins is employed by The Gersh Company, which represents A-list celebrities such as Jamie Foxx, and counted the Duchess as one of its clients whilst she was an actress.

A worker at the company reportedly told a business that the agent could reach out to Meghan and also speak on her behalf.

The source told the Sun: “He filters the deals and passes them on to Meghan.”

Reportedly the launch of Meghan’s new book has stoked upset within the palace with the staff as many are accustomed to handling such work in-house.

The royal source told The Sun: “As a full-time member of the Royal Family, it would be the expectation for that type of work to be exclusively handled by palace staff who balance individual desire over what’s right for the wider institution.

“It is clear she is wanting to keep surrounding herself with her Hollywood people. That wasn’t the expectation.”

It is believed Meghan has completed her fictional children’s book, which is expected to become a bestseller, with all proceeds presumably going to charity.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “As has been previously reported, Rick, Andrew and Nick have been legal, financial and business advisers to the Duchess for many years during her career in the US, and remain friends.”

The new comes days after it was revealed Meghan had hired a controversial Hollywood crisis-management PR firm, reportedly to improve her image with the public.

Buckingham Palace said the firm was hired to help with the launch of the new travel app Travalyst in the USA.

However, many have praised the newest royal for modernising the royal family.

Speaking at the Women in the World summit in New York, Anna Wintour said: “She’s really bringing modernity to the royal family in a way that is inspiring.

“I think the image that I have in my mind is the Duchess of Sussex walking down the aisle by herself, that to me was representative of a modern woman.”
