Meghan Markle ‘rejects’ Kate’s birthing team, snubbing ‘men in suits’ for her own doctors

Royal aides were left baffled after the Duchess of Sussex snubbed the best doctors in the world, adamant she did not want “men in suits” at the birth, which is now just weeks away. She told the Queen she wanted to bring in her own team, led by a female doctor. Alan Farthing and Guy Thorpe-Beeston were present for all Kate, Duchess of Cambridge’s births, with the doctors specialists at high risk births.

They do not charge the Royal Family for their services, but a new team of doctors could cost thousands of pounds.

A source said: “Working for the Royal Household is seen as an honour and attracts other high-profile fee-paying patients.”

But a source close to Meghan said she must do “whatever feels right for her” as it is her baby.

One source said: “Meghan said she doesn’t want the men in suits. She was adamant that she wanted her own people. It did leave a few of us a little baffled.”

Another told the Mail on Sunday: “It is slightly surprising. These people [the Queen’s doctors] are the best of the best and when it comes down to it, their role would actually be very limited in the birth itself, assuming all goes to plan.”

Princess Diana and Princess Anne are among the royals who have previously opted for the royal gynaecologists to be present during their births.

It is already believed Meghan will not opt for the private Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, like Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge.

Kate followed in the footsteps of Princess Diana, giving birth to all three of her children at the west London hospital, before posing on the steps of the Lindo Wing for the world’s media.

It is thought the NHS Frimley Park Hospital could be chosen by Meghan and Harry for the birth, following in the footsteps of Sophie, the Countess of Wessex.

Prince Andrew and Sophie’s two children Louise and James were the first royals to be born at the NHS hospital, 15 miles away from Windsor Castle near Farnborough.

Although the royal birthing team won’t be Meghan’s main doctors, it is understood they will be on hand in case of an emergency as they were with the Countess of Wessex’s birth with Lady Louise.

Bookies odds are shortening on Meghan opting for the Frimley Park Hospital, which would fit with her political beliefs.

Coral spokesman Harry Aitkenhead told Express.co.uk: “It seems Harry and Meghan’s move to Frogmore Cottage could come sooner rather than later, which means in our book the favourites are going to be a short distance from there.

“Frimley Park was where the Countess of Wessex had her two children and placed just 15 miles from their new home that is the top of our betting for where the baby will be born.”
