Meghan Markle protected from ‘abuse and harassment’ by ‘FURIOUS’ Prince Harry
The dramatic claim is made in ‘Harry: Conversations with the Prince’ by royal expert Angela Levin. Meghan and Harry began dating in June 2016, after being set up on a blind date. In November 2016 Kensington Palace released a statement confirming the relationship while calling for Meghan to be given more space.
Ms Levin claims as news of the couple’s relationship began to circulate Harry was “furious” about intrusion into Meghan’s private life and that of her family.
She wrote: “At his insistence Kensington Palace issued an unprecedented statement on November 8 that read like something dashed off in a fury.
“It confirmed that Harry had been in a relationship with Meghan for several months, but attacked the ‘waves of abuse and harassment’ he felt his girlfriend was enduring from the press’.”
The Kensington Palace statement said: “Prince Harry is worried about Ms Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her.
“It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms Markle should be subject to such a storm.”
Meghan and Harry went on to make their first public appearance together at the September 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto.
They announced their engagement two months later, with Meghan closing down her blog and social media accounts.
Meghan and Harry were married on May 19 at St George’s Chapel, in an event watched by millions around the world.
Ms Levin added: “Harry became so concerned about keeping Meghan safe that he volunteered to pay for a retired Scotland Yard protection officer to shield her, especially from the foreign press.
“Only top royals get protection paid for by the state 24/7.”
Meghan gave birth to a son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, on May 6.
The seventh in line to the British throne holds both UK and US citizenship.
