Meghan Markle offered MAJOR voice-over role on The Simpsons – ‘Give us a call!’

The Duchess of Sussex may have secured her first post-royal role as a character in the long-running hit cartoon series, The Simpsons. Bosses at the show, that has been running since 1989, are reportedly scouting the Duchess for a cameo appearance.

The Simpsons show runner and executive producer Al Jean discussed the prospect in an interview with Radio Times.

He suggested that Meghan should “give him a call” about the idea.

He said: “We’ve talked about Harry and Meghan.

“I hear she wants to do voiceover work.

“So if they’re reading this, give us a call.”

Prince Harry and Meghan announced their departure from the royal family in January in an Instagram post.

It shocked royal fans and watchers around the world – such an announcement, least the manner in which it was made, had never been observed.

Shortly after, it was reported that Megan had signed a voiceover deal with Disney in return for a donation to an elephant charity.

Meghan and Harry had already made ties with Disney, including appearances at the European premiere of the Lion King in July 2019.

A video of Harry also emerged in which he highlighted Meghan’s interest in voiceover work to a Disney boss at the premiere.

This would be in return for a donation to Elephants Without Borders.

It is a charity the pair have had close ties with.

In 2017, they travelled to Botswana together, helping the charity’s Dr Mike Chase with a conservation effort.

Meanwhile, producers of The Simpsons also revealed during the interview that they would reconsider how they presented the role of Apu, an Indian store owner.

Actor Hank Azaria recently revealed he will no longer voice the character, following years of controversy and accusations of racism levelled at the show.

Mr Jean, who has been with The Simpsons since its creation, said: “If we were casting the character now, we’d cast someone who was ethnically correct to play Apu.

“The way we always wrote him, though, was as a hardworking, thoughtful family man who was smarter than everyone else in Springfield.

“The majority of the jokes were about Springfield not appreciating what a gem he is. So we’re proud of him.”

And, actress Yeardley Smith, who voices Lisa Simpson, admitted that she wants climate activist Greta Thunberg to fulfil a voice role.

Ms Thunberg and Lisa share similar qualities given Lisa’s ardent environmentalism.

Ms Smith said: “It’d be great if Greta plays herself – she’d be passing through Springfield and find that she has so much in common with Lisa.

“But the heartbreaker would be when Greta moved on to her next stop and Lisa would be with all those people in the town who wish she’d just keep her trap shut.

“She’d have to carry the torch for the rest of time on her own.”
