Meghan Markle news: Pictures of Meghan Markle and Beyonce at the Lion King premiere
Meghan Markle joined her husband Prince Harry for a roaring good time today at the premiere of the new edition of Disney’s the Lion King. The Duchess of Sussex has been largely absent from the public eye since she gave birth to her son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor on May 6. However, in the few weeks, she has been spotted attending a number of events, despite a planned maternity leave period of three months. This month, the new mother has been spotted at Wimbledon twice, with Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge at her husband and brother-in-law Prince William’s polo match and now at the Lion King premiere. But what did the Duchess of Sussex wear and who else attended the glittering star-studded event?
Meghan Markle wowed the crowds this afternoon at the Lion King European premiere at Leicester Square on July 14 on the arm of her husband.
Buckingham Palace previously confirmed that Prince Harry would walk down the red carpet alongside stars such as Beyonce, Sir Elton John, Pharrell Williams and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Prince Harry has formerly confessed to watching it more than 20 times, being able to recite the words and songs from heart and calling it his favourite film.
He is also close friends with Sir Elton John, who composed the musical along with Sir Tim Rice.
The Duke of Sussex is also a keen Lion King fan – which is believed to have driven her to attend the premiere.
The special outing for the new parents has great significance as early in their relationship, they enjoyed a date at the West End stage production of The Lion King in December 2016.
Sir Elton even performed Circle of Life as one of songs at the royal couple’s wedding reception to 600 guests at Windsor Castle last year.
The premiere also attracted a number of notable attendees.
These included Seth Rogen who plays Pumba in the newly adapted version of Lion King, singer Elton John and film director Guy Ritchie.
Many reality TV stars such as former Love Island contestants and Towie stars were also spotted.
Prior to sitting down to watch the film the Duke of Sussex met the cast and crew of the beloved film.
The premiere is due to tie in with Disney’s Protect the Pride initiative, already announced in conjunction with the film, which has seen them donate $1.5m (£1.2m) to the Lion Recovery Fund and its partners with plans to double it with the help of fans.
The Duke is patron of wildlife organisation African Parks Network, and aides have indicated conservation will be at the heart of the Sussexes new charitable foundation, due to be set up later this year.
Earlier this month, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shared their commitment for the environment and wildlife by choosing 15 charities, individuals and organisations to follow on Instagram in a bid to highlight the work each undertakes and impact they have on the world.
