Meghan Markle news: Hillary Clinton praises royal as inspiration in Instagram post

The Duchess of Sussex is launching a fashion line with women’s charity Smart Works later this month. And Hillary was full of praise for how Meghan is “representing the US in the UK and on the world stage”.

The former US presidential candidate took to Instagram to share a snap of the royal hugging a woman at the charity.

Hillary captioned the picture: “I’m so inspired by how Meghan Markle—aka one half of @sussexroyal—is representing the U.S. in the U.K. and on the world stage.

“Meghan’s new project: Helping @SmartWorksCharity equip women who have been out of the workforce with the office essentials they need to feel confident in job interviews and beyond.

“The ability to earn their own paycheque is a key part of women’s economic, social, and cultural equality, and it can all start with some smart suits.”

Hillary’s intervention comes after Prince Harry’s wife has faced a string of negative headlines.

She is the latest high-profile or celebrity figure to speak out in support of Meghan.

Last month, Sir Elton John rushed to the Sussexes’ defence after they found themselves at the centre of a hypocrisy row over their use of private jets despite being eco-warriors.

Meghan is launching her Smart Works clothing collection next Thursday, her first official engagement since the birth of Archie in May.

The fashion line has been created with Jigsaw, John Lewis, Marks and Spencer and her designer friend Misha Nonoo, who is rumoured to have introduced Meghan to Harry.

It includes a shirt, trousers, blazer, dress and bag.

For every item bought during the sale of the collection, which is expected to last at least two weeks, one will be donated to Smart Works, which provides training and interview clothes to unemployed women in need.

The royal announced the project during the September issue of Vogue she guest-edited.

Meghan said: “The reason I was drawn to Smart Works is that it re-frames the idea of charity as a community, which, for me, is incredibly important: it’s a network of women supporting and empowering other women in their professional pursuits.”

She added that the charity is often wrongly seen as a “makeover” organisation where a woman is transformed into something better through the donated clothes.

Meghan said: “This is not a fairytale. If it’s a cultural reference you’re after, forget Cinderella – this is a story of Wonder Woman, ready to take on the world in her metaphorical and literal cape.”

The US-born former actress was named as the charity’s patron back in January.

The 38-year-old voiced her support for Hillary during the 2016 presidential race which she lost to Donald Trump.

And earlier this year the Sussexes hired Sara Latham, who has previously worked for Hillary.
