Meghan Markle nanny: The one thing Prince Harry demanded from new nanny

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have said they want to raise their son, Archie Mountbatten, in the most “normal” possible way. Their decision means less time in the spotlight for the royal tot, who is now six months old, and recently the Duke and Duchess took a brief retirement to spend time “as a family” together without the pressures of royal life. One person helping them out will be the Sussex family nanny, whom Prince Harry had specific demands about before they were employed.

What did Prince Harry demand from a Sussex nanny?

As most senior members of the Royal Family are working royals, they are required to be away for extended periods.

Most of them employ a nanny, traditionally a uniformed graduate of Norland College.

The elite nannies are currently the choice of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and work in their trademark beige dresses and bowler hat.

According to one royal commentator, Prince Harry objected to having one of the elite nannies employed to look after his son.

Speaking on Yahoo’s Royal Box in September, royal commentator Omid Scobie revealed the Prince vetoed a Norland nanny as he didn’t want to live like “Mary Poppins”.

Mr Scobie said: “One of the things that Harry said was, ‘I don’t want a woman in a uniform around my child.

“‘This isn’t Mary Poppins, we’re going to have a normal household’.”

Harry and Meghan initially had trouble settling on a nanny for baby Archie.

In June, The Sun revealed Archie’s current nanny is his third.

One source told the publication they had difficulty finding someone to suit baby Archie’s needs, with their first just a night nanny.

They eventually settled on a nanny who is a “godsend” to the couple.

In September a source told The Sun that the Duke and Duchess’ chosen nanny had settled well into the family.

Their current nanny does not wear a uniform and recently accompanied the couple to Africa for their royal tour.

The source said she “adores” baby Archie and “fitted into the family really well”.

They said: “Meghan is a very hands-on mum but the new nanny is a godsend.”

“She is extremely professional, with a number of nannying years under her belt, and has fitted into the family really well.

“She’s great with little Archie and just adores him. Harry and Meghan are very happy with her.”

Prince Harry’s desire to raise his son as “normal” as possible may come from his mother, Princess Diana.

The People’s Princess famously wanted a normal upbringing for her children, and the princes grew close to their nanny, Tiggy Legge-Bourke.
