Meghan Markle maternity leave: How long is Meghan Markle off on maternity leave for?

Meghan Markle gave birth to a baby boy on May 6. The first time mother has not been seen out in public since she and husband Prince Harry showed their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor to the world in a photo session held in Windsor three days after he had been born. Prince Harry returned to work just three days after his son was born, but Meghan Markle has taken longer away from the public eye to bond with her newborn son. But with Trooping the Colour happening tomorrow royal fans everywhere are curious as to whether she will appear and wondering how long she is due to take off on maternity leave?

How long was Meghan’s sister-in-law Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge off on maternity leave?

Meghan Markle’s sister-in-law Kate Middleton has three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

For each of these children she took time away from her royal duties and engagements to look after them, but the times for each was different.

Prince George, born on July 22, 2013, was the first child from Prince William and Kate Middleton, born more than two years after the couple married.

The Duchess of Cambridge took just five and a half weeks off with Prince George, making a surprise appearance in Anglesey at the end of August.

The event was the Ring O’Fire Anglesey Coastal Ultra Marathon and was on August 30, 2013.

With Princess Charlotte, Kate Middleton took four months maternity leave after giving birth to her daughter on May 2, 2015.

She returned to work at the opening of the Rugby World Cup on September 18, 2015.

For Prince Louis, The Duchess announced her return from maternity leave in September and made her first appearance in October, meaning that she took six months off for the youngest Cambridge child.

She visited Sayers Croft Forest School and Wildlife Garden at Paddington Recreation Ground.

When is Meghan expected to return back to work?

Meghan finished up her official royal duties six weeks ago.

Although she could take up to a year off on maternity leave, the Duchess of Sussex is expected to take only three months off on maternity leave.

Before she gave birth, it was suggested Meghan had pencilled in three months, but would appear for the Queen’s birthday this weekend at Trooping the Colour.

A royal source told The Sun: “Meghan has made it very clear she wants to return to work as soon as possible. She has huge amounts of energy, is extremely determined and wants to be as hands-on as possible with her charities.

“She’s pencilled in three months, but she’ll most likely return to public life in six weeks — on the Queen’s official birthday, Trooping the Colour, in June.

“Three months’ maternity is standard in the US for American mums – they don’t normally get the six or even 12 months women get here in the UK. So this is totally normal for Meghan.”
