The Duchess of Sussex took a swipe at Kate during her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey last month as she alleged her sister-in-law made her cry in 2018, rather than the other way around as had been reported. Royal expert Daniela Elser has now said the sisters-in-law may have got off to a rocky start with their relationship as Meghan’s successful acting career could have been intimating to Kate. She told news.com.au: “If insecurity on Kate’s part did lie at the heart of the Great Duchess Debacle it would make sense.
“By the time Meghan moved into Kensington Palace in 2017 she was a successful actress with five seasons of a cable network dramedy under her belt, had launched a clothing line for a Canadian department store, and had set up a blog that was a fairly generic melange of Maya Angelou quotes and lipstick suggestions.
“More impressively, in my book anyway, was the fact she had also served as a globetrotting ambassador for World Vision, was a counsellor for One Young World, a UK-based charity, and had worked as a UN Women advocate including giving a speech at a UN world conference event in Beijing.
“And Kate? Well, before she married William she once organised a charity roller disco.
“The fact of the matter is, while Kate might now be hailed for her Early Years and mental health work, back when she was a single gal she was hardly blazing a shining professional path.”
Fellow royal expert Camilla Tominey also spoke of the pair failing to form a close bond due to their very different personalities and backgrounds.
Writing in the Telegraph, she said: “Kate spent 10 years as a girlfriend learning the ropes. Everything happened much more quickly with Harry and Meghan, who entered the royal scene with her own, fully formed ideas.
“I think Kate found her quite intimidating.”
During the Oprah interview, Meghan said her disagreement with Kate “made her cry” but Kate “owned it and apologised” to her with a handwritten note and flowers.
She said: “I don’t say that to be disparaging to anyone because it was a really hard week of the wedding and she was upset about something.
“A few days before the wedding, Kate was upset about something. Yes, the issue was correct about flower girl dresses.”
Kate has not publicly responded to the claims but Buckingham Palace later said “recollections may vary”.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry also spoke to Oprah about his strained relationship with his brother William, who is celebrating his 10th wedding anniversary with Kate this week.

The Duke of Sussex said they were on “different paths” but that he “loved him to bits”.
He said: “As I’ve said before, I love William to bits. He’s my brother.
“We’ve been through hell together. I mean, we have a shared experience. But we’re on different paths.
“The relationship is space at the moment. And time heals all things, hopefully.”
However, royal expert Omid Scobie confirmed Harry met Prince Charles and Prince William in the grounds of Windsor Castle after the funeral, suggesting the family had started to mend their strained relationship.
He said: “The love and respect he [Harry] has for his grandmother will always be unwavering.
“This trip was to honour the life of his grandfather and support his grandmother and relatives.
“Saturday broke the ice for future conversations but outstanding issues have not been addressed at any great length.
“The family simply put their issues to one side to focus on what mattered.”
While Harry will not return for royal duties this year, he could still fly back to the UK in July for the unveiling of a statue of his late mother Princess Diana.
He is reported to be planning to join Prince William for a ceremony at Kensington Palace.
